Date: 17-07-2014
Timetable: 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: Tech Talent Center (Badajoz, 73. Barcelona)

On Thursday, the 17th July 2014 at 7.00 pm the Tech Talent Center (c/Badajoz 73, Barcelona) will be hosting the Open Talent: "Current challenges of lighting heritage and urban landscapes", with the lighting designers Miguel Ángel Rodríguez and Lara Elbaz.

We are witnessing, without any clear references, an unstoppable transformation in the night-time image of the urban tissue and its historical and heritage sites, supported by the technological advances not only of LED developers, but also largely by the new ways of transforming images and their supports. The event will provide examples on how this transformation of the urban landscape is by no means neutral or unaffected by ideological discourse or economic interests.

Keynote speakers

Miguel Ángel Rodríguez Lorite developed, from 1986 to 2005, the lighting unit of the Department for the Preventive Conservation of Cultural Goods at the Spanish Institute for Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture). In January 2006 he became the director of the company Intervento, established in 1993 and focusing its activity on museology and lighting. Over the past 25 years he has carried out many lighting projects, almost 200 of which have been implemented, both in the public and private spheres, in Spain and abroad. All of these projects are, in some way, related to Historical Heritage, museums and singular architecture. Some of the relevant projects lately include the Master Lighting Plan for the Historical Heritage of Segovia and the Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace and the Moneo building in downtown Murcia. He is an honorary member of APDI.

Lara Elbaz spent the first ten years of her career working on lighting at Philips Lighting, gaining a sound technical background and commercial and marketing experience. Her career was consolidated after collaborating for two years with the consultancy firm Architectural Lighting Solutions (ALS). Since 2008 she has combined her professional activity as a freelance lighting designer at her studio Lara Elbaz Lighting Design with an intense teaching activity. She teaches at the IE School of Architecture and Design in Segovia and at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Madrid, where, for the fourth consecutive year, she has been the co-director of the MA in Lighting Design. She is also a senior professional member of APDI.
