One of the most interesting and frequently the most complex activity in engineering is the process of defining, designing and developing a product or machine based on a set of previously established functions and provisions.

Equipment design is a multidisciplinary activity that utilises, among other things, the following materials from this MEIE master¿s course: machine and mechanism theory, calculation and simulation, constructive solutions, drives and drive controls, mechatronics, selecting components on the market, applications for materials and processes, manufacturing technology, ergonomics, safety and recyclability. All of these activities are combined in one single project.


  • To design and optimise mechanical systems for industrial equipment, applying mechanism synthesis techniques, member guides, determining and selecting drives and components on the market.
  • To integrate existing regulations and conditions into machine and equipment design, from the different areas where machine production is involved to the equipment operators who will use these machine throughout the life cycle of the machine.
  • Selecting suitable material and manufacturing technologies according to the function and shape of the pieces and the components of the equipment, taking into consideration the most innovative materials and manufacturing processes. Special attention is given to the processes that allow for a high degree of versatility when manufacturing in small production runs.

Who is it for

  • Industrial engineers or other technicians that work in the design and development of industrial systems.
  • Recent graduates who wish to work in the areas mentioned above (preferably students specialised in mechanical, electro mechanical, electrical or automatic engineering).

Mechanical Systems Engineering
12 ECTS. 105 teaching hours.
This course presents the concepts basicair necesarias to define, coordinate and realize the design of industrial machines and care of basic mechanics. Master's degrees issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official or recognized university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or diploma. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

- In two instalments:
  • 60% of the amount payable, to be paid within the deadline specified in the letter of admission to the programme
  • Remaining 40% to be paid up to 90 days at the latest after the starting date of the programme
