Aims

The academic objective responds to the current awareness for landscape and environmental intervention where different disciplines come together, some directly involved with aesthetic and technical aspects of the intervention, such as landscaping, architecture, urbanism, and others linked to the civil engineering, agriculture and forestry, and other scientific training in the fields of environmental science or planning, such as geography, economics, law, etc.

It is aimed at designing the intervention and protection planning, but also the transformation of natural and artificial landscapes. That is, the design of parks and public spaces, the treatment of spaces that are necessary to improve, protect and restore, specifically in the coastal and river areas, to environmental management and planning when subjected to changes in the use that modify them substantially, and the new agricultural and tourist areas.

Develop the basic material to enter in the design of aesthetic aspects but also social, technical and scientific. Provides the knowledge necessary for the evaluation and understanding of the medium.

9 ECTS. 62 teaching hours.
The first module of the Masters is The Public Space Project and the duration of the course is six weeks. It's an introduction to the urban context particularly in the public spaces in the city of Barcelona, and addresses the urban planning and strategies in the public space area.
Taller A2. El Proyecto del Espacio Público
9 ECTS. 63 teaching hours.
The second module of the workshop Public Space Project, which takes place over a period of six weeks. The emphasis is on the strategy of details, looking at things on the small scale found in urban public spaces.
Taller B1: Los Sistemas del Verde: del Verde Urbano a los Espacios Naturales
9 ECTS. 62 teaching hours.
First module of the Green Systems Workshop. A six-week course which works with the concept of ¿perturbations¿, analysing and projecting onto damaged areas such as quarries, rubbish dumps or forest fires and following the general theme of the Workshop.
Taller B2. Los Sistemas del Verde: del Verde Urbano a los Espacios Naturales
9 ECTS. 63 teaching hours.
Second module of the Green Systems Workshop. A six-week course complementing the first workshop, focussing on the concept of green infrastructure, although at the same time of a different nature with a change of project placement in line with the general workshop theme.
Intensivo Internacional 1. Entre el Espacio Público y el Verde
2 ECTS. 25 teaching hours.
International Intensive Course. A one-week course. The aim of this intensive workshop is to present a personal vision in landscape projection of a professional-teacher of recognised prestige in the field. The idea is to show the students international professional contexts different form the Catalan ones and to widen their local vision and understanding. The theme will be determined by the invited professor, but will be related to and taught in parallel with the first two main master¿s workshops, the Public Space Project and the Green Systems
Taller C1. El Proyecto de los Sistemas del Agua.
9 ECTS. 62 teaching hours.
First module of the Water Systems Workshop. A six-week course on a grand scale, analysing the environment at approximately 1:5000 and following the general theme of the Workshop. It is the project of sea-front promenades, fluvial areas, wet lands, etc. focussed on how to work in a better way with degraded spaces, trying to increase our knowledge of the consequences of the interaction between water and land on the vegetation, and from the point of view of transformation, management and maintenance.
Taller C2. El Proyecto del Sistema del Agua
9 ECTS. 63 teaching hours.
Second module of the Water Systems Workshop. A six-week course working on a much more reduced scale, trying to understand the mechanisms involved in water cycles, and to look at hydraulic systems as a  way of reading the land. The workshop is centred on studying those spaces where the water erosion of the land has a prominent role in shaping the landscape.
Taller D1: El Turismo: Nuevos Usos para Antiguos Territorios
9 ECTS. 62 teaching hours.
First module of the Tourism Workshop: New Uses for Old Territories. A six-week course dealing with the ever increasing influence of tourism on the economy sector, but also its inevitable relationship with the landscape. Massive tourism, particularly the sun and beach model, has often been associated with property speculation and the exploitation of resources.
Taller D2. El Turismo: Nuevos Usos para Antíguos Territorios
9 ECTS. 63 teaching hours.

Second module of the Tourism Workshop: New Uses for Old Territories. A six-week course following the same line as the first module, working in places where the change in the use of the land strongly affects the landscape. Usually working in the same location, emphasising different aspects of the land and achieving projects which are different from the first ones but at the same time perfectly complementary.

The workshop is structured around three basic areas of work and investigation developed at the same time: developing a deeper understanding of the complex effects of the tourism phenomenon on land and service industries through conferences by specialists in the field; systematising the study of landscape using conventional and non-conventional methods of landscape analysis suitable for the new generation of cartographers with the use of the Geographic Information Systems; and finally, exploring from inside the project the instruments for planning and management, trying out alternative materials and innovative touristic products.
Intensivo Internacional 2. El Agua y el Turismo
2 ECTS. 25 teaching hours.

International Intensive Course 2. A one-week course. The aim of this intensive workshop is to present a personal vision in landscape projection of a professional-teacher of recognised prestige in the field. The idea is to show the students international professional contexts different form the Catalan ones and to widen their local vision and understanding. The theme will be determined by the invited professor, but will be related to and taught in parallel with the two secondary masters workshops, Water Systems and Tourism: New Uses for Old Lands.

Internacional Intensivo. Rehacer Paisajes
6 ECTS. 100 teaching hours.

International Intensive Course 3. It is held over two weeks at the end of the course, with classes from 10h to 14h and 16h to 21h.

It aims to provide master students the opportunity to work with recognized and emerging figures in the landscape field, both academics and professionals worldwide. Teachers are invited to propose, from a personal approach, his themes and methodologies. The worked issues are debated under a wide perspective (project planning, analytical, diagnostic), and are present in the landscape reality: the project of public space within the limits of the Mediterranean metropolis, the introduction of urban or tourist uses in specific landscapes, such as the coast, etc..

Propuesta Final de Máster
8 ECTS. 50 teaching hours.

Final Dissertation developed in additional hours beyond the normal schedule of master classes. Reviews and presentations are made following each year calendar, being compulsary to get the Diploma do the oral presentation within the enrolled academic year.

The commonly accepted lack of landscape theory, due to their status as fragmented and heterogeneous field, its theoretical exploration is urgent. At the end of the academic year, before graduation, students individually develop a short work of research on a topic of their choice related to landscape and developed from the multiple perspectives that offer landscape design theory, aesthetics, ecology, urbanism, history, geo-botany, sociology, etc.. The aim of the thesis is to give students the opportunity to research and theoretical reflection, concluding their studies of expertise. The critical approach, originality and academic rigor are basic requirements for the development of the written work. The development of the thesis is supported by theoretical and methodological seminar and personalized tutoring with the faculty of the program. Finally, an oral presentation of the work with visual support is evaluated by a jury.
