This postgraduate course can be attended as part of the master's degree Rail System and Electric Drive.

La implantación del Tren de Alta Velocidad (AVE) en nuestro país ha demostrado que el ferrocarril puede ser un sistema de transporte competitivo y eficiente. El futuro de la movilidad pasa por desarrollar este medio de transporte, que presenta ventajas interesantes a nivel medioambiental y también en lo que se refiere a factores económicos. Este curso quiere convertirse en un referente en todo aquello relativo a la formación en los aspectos técnicos del ferrocarril, y llenar un vacío que existía en Cataluña.

Las empresas del sector podrán ver satisfechas las necesidades de formación técnica. De esta manera iniciamos una apuesta estratégica en el transporte de mercancías, ya que existe un proyecto europeo para establecer una autopista ferroviaria en todo el eje mediterráneo.

El curso contará con las aportaciones de los mejores especialistas en sistemas ferroviarios, algunos de ellos directivos de importantes empresas del sector. Todos ellos explicarán sus experiencias a los participantes del curso, ya que uno de sus objetivos es compartir los conocimientos de las compañías punteras. Se trata de ofrecer una formación en consonancia con las necesidades de las organizaciones.

3 ECTS. 30 teaching hours.
1. A general view of energy and the problems related its use.
2. Energy and transport.
3. Types of traction and energy factors related to railways.
4. Braking dynamics and auxiliary systems on trains.
5. The energy needed to move a train.
6. The energy demands of a train according to services and critical variables.
7. A general view of practices and measures used to reduce the energy demands of trains.
8. Practices used in the design of trains and rail lines.
9. Economical conduction of trains and efficient regulation of traffic.
Railway Signalling
3 ECTS. 30 teaching hours.
1. General analysis of signalling.
2. Signalling and its applications.
3. Different signalling devices and their applications in railways.
4. Specifications of the devices that need to be installed according to the width of the tracks and the Railway Administration regulations.
5. Analysis of reliable train detection systems.
6. Application of safety systems that control the circulation and movements of trains.
7. Study of the symbology involved in the creation of signalling schemes.
8. Application of Interlocking systems that function between different safeguard systems that control the circulation and movements of trains.
9. Analysis of the different forms of automatic formulation of itineraries and their annulment.
10. Methodology for application of systems that control safety systems.
11. Application of Level Crossings where roads and railways intersect.
Substations and Networks
3 ECTS. 30 teaching hours.
1. General elements of DC electricity.
2. Rectifier substations (DC).
3. Electronic calculations for DC power.
4. General elements of AC electricity.

7. Maintenance and use of electricity installations.
Automatic Train Protection Systems (ATP)
3 ECTS. 30 teaching hours.
1. General analysis of ATP systems.
2. ATP systems and their applications.
3. Different ATP systems and their application to railways.
4. Specifications of ATP devices that need to be installed according to the width of the tracks and the Railway Administration regulations.
5. Analysis of the systems used for reliable ATP use.
6. Application of ATP systems that control the circulation and movements of trains.

8. Application of ATP systems that function between different safeguard systems that control the circulation and movements of trains.

To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official or recognized university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or diploma. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.
