This postgraduate course can be attended as part of the master's degree Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Equipment.

Designing industrial machines and equipment in this industry involves producing polymers, elastomers and compound materials that must comply with a wide variety of requirements like shape, aspect, environmental behaviour, production volume according to cost, etc.

Nowadays the designer has a growing diversity of compliant materials and processes at their disposition. Special attention is given to the processes that allow for a high degree of versatility when manufacturing in small production runs.

The purpose of this postgraduate course is to provide the knowledge and tools needed to make the best decisions in terms of the functions, shapes, materials and processes based on the requirements of each polymer, elastomer or compound material they wish to design and implement these decisions during this course by doing component design exercises.

    Manufacturing Processes for Plastic Components
    - Introduction to injected plastics
    - Other injection processes
    - A visit to an injected plastics factory

    Design and Calculations for Plastic Components
    - Criteria for designing components
    - Designing components (gears, bearings, flexible joints, click-ins, screw joints, planar sliding joints...)

    Elastomer Components

To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official or recognized university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or diploma. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.
