UPC School

This lifelong learning course can be attended as part of the postgraduate course Maintenance of Equipment and Installations.


  • To provide maintenance technicians with comprehensive knowledge in industrial installations and techniques to be able to avoid breakdowns using proper testing and diagnostics.
  • To offer the means and knowledge needed to resolve breakdowns quickly and safely.



Installations and Electric Equipment Maintenance
5 ECTS. 54 teaching hours.
  • Measuring and filtering disturbances in electricity networks.
  • Medium tension switchgear. Protection devices used to prevent electrical tension and current overlaods. Maintenance.
  • Electric installations: electric power distribution lines.
  • Infrared thermography.
  • Industrial transformers and Transformer Centres (TC): industrial transformer maintenance (detecting wear particles in oil).
  • Grounded installation maintenance.
  • Low tension switchgear.
  • Equipment and measurement methods for inspecting low tension installations.
  • Motor and generator maintenance.
  • Practise cases with asynchronous tri-phase motor maintenance: preparation, setup and start-up of a broken down asynchronous tri-phase motor.
  • Low power transformers.
  • Equipment used in electrical installations (electric pumps, pressure compensators and sensors, power level, humidity, etc.).
  • Speed controller installation. Applications. Maintenance.
  • Generator maintenance.
  • Lighting, security and emergency equipment maintenance.
  • Inspecting installations. Regulations.

Lifelong learning diploma issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official or recognized university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or diploma. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

Virtual Campus
The students on this Lifelong learning course will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space allows students to find background material for their classes, to work in teams, ask their lecturers questions, consult their marks, etc.
