This lifelong learning course can be attended as part of the postgraduate course Equipment and Installations Maintenance.


  • To provide maintenance technicians with comprehensive knowledge in industrial installations and techniques to be able to avoid breakdowns using proper testing and diagnostics.
  • To offer the means and knowledge needed to resolve breakdowns quickly and safely.



Maintenance of Industrial Heating and Cooling Output Systems, Domestic Hot Water Systems, Fire Extinguisher Systems and Water Treatment Systems
5 ECTS. 48 teaching hours.

             Gas Installations Maintenance

  • The components of a gas installation.
  • Design and location criteria for pipes, parts and accessories.
  • Preliminary measurement for a gas installation.
  • Permanent and mobile Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanks.
  • Maintenance of gas installations in commercial or industrial locations.
  • Rules and regulations.

    Boiler room maintenance
  • Description of the different types of boilers.
  • Heating and domestic hot water.
  • Conventional boilers, low temperature and condensation.
  • Boilers using vapour, thermal fluids, etc.
  • Burners.
  • Combustion and fuel types.
  • Phased, progressive and modulating burners.
  • Adjustment and control.
  • Maintenance and regulations.

    Maintenance of refrigeration units in air-conditioning installations
  • Description of the basic components of a refrigeration system: compressors, evaporators, condensers and expansion systems.
  • Air and water condenser units. Refrigeration towers.
  • The behaviour of refrigeration systems based on evaporation and condensation temperatures.
  • Most common units used in air-conditioning systems: refrigeration, heat pumps and recovery pumps.
  • Maintenance: basic types and operations.
    Individual and collective heating unit maintenance
    Radiant under floor heating maintenance
    Potable water system installations maintenance
    Plumbing and liquids propulsion installations maintenance
    Fire prevention installations maintenance
  • Detection and alarm systems.
  • Extinguisher units, material, and systems organised by origin and type of fire.
  • Water supply networks. Tanks.
  • Control centres. Sirens. Optical, ionic and thermovelicimetrical detectors.
  • Extinguishers and hoses.
  • Automatic sprinkler systems. Dry standpipe. Hydrants.
  • Rules and regulations. Building code.
