Design and management of projects in terms of efficient quality, response time and cost is challenge for any business. In this master's course in Project Management we teach students how to direct and manage projects from a general viewpoint, offering an understanding of the most advanced trends used to successfully complete industrial, service, or any type of general project.

This course can be divided into two large blocks, the first of which is an essentially technical section where project management systems using the most advanced techniques are explained and the concept of lean management is introduced and a financial vision is incorporated in terms of developing budgets and predicting possible investments. The other block is dedicated to the more humanistic side of projects. This block covers strengthening teams that carry out the projects and give the project leaders the abilities and capacity to manage personnel. With this in mind students will work on aspects like emotional intelligence, negotiation techniques and business communication. As well, they will study external planning processes and project development, outsourcing and the externalisation of services.

The professors for this master's course are made up of industrial sector professionals with a wide array of experience in the business world. As we expect the highest quality and a very high level of excellence in each subject taught in this course the list of professors is quite large. This is why both a coordinator position for each area and a general coordinator position have been created to ensure the uniformity of all the courses. These professors are also entrusted with the task of working as tutors for the master's course final project that students will elaborate.

To make following this course easier, upon the completion of enrolment students will receive a tablet PC to which they can download the notes and all of the documentation from the Master's programme.

In a world where globalisation is increasing every day and where businesses need to compete with other countries that can offer lower production costs, working in an efficient and competitive way is very important. To reach this objective, companies must adopt the latest trends that can help them become more highly efficient. The Master's Course in Organisation and Engineering of Industrial Plant Production and Management works with all of the aspects that give financial value to companies and covers organisational aspects of engineering and management of manufacturing processes, production planning and materials and resource needs, industrial plant design and implementing productive systems.

The Engiplant Master's Course is a professional master's course that basically focuses on the practical aspects of management and only dedicates the minimum time necessary to deal with the theoretical aspects. This is the big difference between this type of course and the typical university education format. This program covers aspects such as maintenance, logistics, human resources, industrial strategies and the latest trends so that participants, far from just listening, actively participate by working in teams and study real-life cases that may have even come up students' own companies. As well there will be visits to leading companies in the industrial sectors that are of interest to students. This course offers a comprehensive teaching methodology focused on practical aspects and the most advanced techniques. The professors for this course are made up of professionals with a high level of business experience and the majority of them do not come from the university education world.

This course will end with a final project where students work in small groups, deal with real-life situations and develop improvement and analysis projects.

To make following this course easier, upon the completion of enrolment students will receive a tablet PC to which they can download the notes and all of the documentation from the Master's programme.

The master's programme The Housing Laboratory of The 21st Century is a rigorously complete combination of both practise and theory. The theoretical training provides participants with the criteria for critical culture that's is based on history and methodology, taking into account the essential reality behind the evolution of large scale housing, aesthetic and anthropological interpretations, the tools used to analyse different types of housing and the technical criteria that favours sustainability. From a practical point of view, this course is based on a progressive study process starting with urban management work, general projects, as well as specialised and detailed studies of different types of contemporary housing situations: management, multifunctional models, emergency shelter housing, and restoration.

As well as balancing and involving theoretical and practical elements, this master's program focuses on the close relationships that exist between public administrations, professional schools, public universities, construction companies and promoters.

The Housing Laboratory of the 21st Century, located in the Escuela de Arquitectura de Barcelona (Barcelona School of Architecture) will become an archive and a type of documentary bank that offers criticism of a diverse array of social, economic, legal, typological and technical issues related to collective housing. To learn more about this issue, anyone interested has the opportunity to participate in the workshop "Patchwork Housing – Design for Diversity", which will take place between the 20th and the 27th of February 2012, given by Franziska Ullmann, an architect and professor at the University of Stuttgart, one of the best specialists in housing studies in Europe.

The increased importance of IT systems in businesses today has been a real boost to the careers of professionals working in ITC departments. Before IT professionals merely assisted business processes in companies, now they have the challenge of efficiently managing IT projects that only continue to grow in number and scope. Management of a project portfolio in a company is as fundamental now as it was before, but before it was based on excellence in management of one project at a time. This is why the decisions that are made in the ITC department must be in line with the needs of the business and need to be beneficial for both the business and the ITC department.

Up until recently the goal of the ITC department was only to manage information (volume, integrity, security, broadband, response time). Nowadays, the technical aspects are still very important but this department has had to adapt to technological development and start providing assistance to business objectives and management of project portfolios in companies. This means that IT departments now govern business processes, from the receipt of orders to the prioritisation and assignment of human and financial resources within the company.

IT professionals today must know how to use ITC tools that can properly manage services as well as innovation. This program is aimed at professionals who are seeking to complement their management training in IT projects, Project portfolio management, IT governance and service management and engineering.

Rather than diminishing, over coming years, the current rise in the number of projects and building works on existing buildings is set to experience a strong growth, making this into one of the pillars of architecture-related professional work. New constructions will feature less and less in the realm of building works as a whole, a trend which has been taking hold in Europe for several decades.

Nevertheless, the contents taught in the academic field of construction have barely changed since their initial conception, which focused solely on new constructions. And this despite the fact that the differences between operating on an existing building, whether with or without historical value, and designing a new building cannot possibly be disregarded. In relation to the above, the lack of specialists on the subject is all the more overwhelming if we take into account that architectural studies tend to disregard the constructional-structural make-up of construction works, which is essential to their preservation. The entry into force of the Spanish Technical Building Code (known as ‘Código Técnico de la Edificación’, or CTE), which though difficult to fulfil is mandatory, has intensified this trend further still.

This new programme, which is integrated in the frame of the EEES, aims to provide a new alternative. It thus integrates the extensive, 10 year long track record of the ‘Architectural Restoration’ postgraduate course: Structural-Construction Analysis of Intervention Technologies, which has contributed the knowledge and skills required to remedy these shortcomings across the large group of students who completed the course.

Six Sigma is a strategy of improvement, a tool designed to make companies more efficient and competitive. It is based on an organization with clearly defined responsibilities, a monitoring process of the stages, which guarantees that nothing important will be left aside and the use of data (conveniently gathered and processed) for decision-making.

This course targets professionals wishing to improve their skills to drive improvement projects. The profile of participants is very diverse, with very different experiences. The point in common is that they have all been involved in improving the processes and activities in their companies. However, quality control using Lean Six Sigma tools can be used for a wide range of disciplines. In this sense we have trained engineers, pharmacists, biologists and psychologists among others. Managing quality is a crosscutting issue and can be done in industrial processes as well as in the service sector.

Among participants we may find people who have been working on borderline issues dealing with quality, production, customer service, laboratories or purchases.

We are not in an era of change, but instead, the change of an era. Organisations need to unlearn a lot of the criteria that they were applying and reinvent themselves. Concepts like "black swans", "blue oceans" and "the Lucifer effect" allow us to reflect on and open up to new realities. Innovation and technology are no longer options that we can simply contemplate but an essential reality. Competitiveness is the result of adding up two variables: "operative efficiency," and "perceived differentiation" and technology should contribute to the improvement of these two aspects. We don't know what situations we will find ourselves in, but we do know that it is not easy to predict what they will be. As a result of this, organisations can't pretend to have a clear Internet strategy. The competencies that professionals use to help them lead these new scenarios can not be exclusively technical and they must attain and promote a much more comprehensive vision to include things like the development of relationship abilities.

The Postgraduate course in Technology Consulting seeks to provide professionals with this vision and help them face new challenges from a technological perspective that is oriented towards business. To reach this objective this programme will be taught by highly experienced and well recognised professionals not only from technological areas, but also from the areas of consulting and strategy.

To make following this course easier, upon the completion of enrolment students will receive a tablet PC to which they can download the notes and all of the documentation from the postgraduate programme.

More and more companies find themselves needing to incorporate technological projects to differentiate themselves from the competition or to assure their survival in such competitive markets. This means they need to understand the stages and life cycles of IT projects and know how to apply, when called upon to do so, any of the methodologies that are on the market to define and build the right technology sector projects.

In the IT sector there are many professionals who have to manage projects every day and need to have access to the right tools get the results their companies are looking for. Currently all of the small and medium size and large businesses carry out IT projects in their organisations. These projects range from the implementation of ERP (like SAP, Navision, Sage, etc.) to a CRM (Siebel, SAP, Navision) as well as setting up intranets to help with client, provider, employee and government relations. Often, companies do not have personnel with enough knowledge of the right tools and methods to successfully carry out projects they are responsible for (defining the scope of the project, quality control plan, risks and costs, etc.).

Correctly applying an IT project management methodology will save a business a lot of money because it can generate higher quality products and services, and higher earnings, as implementing projects in a more effective way garners more substantial results.

Innovation is what happens when a technology based idea becomes a business. Taking this step and guiding this process is one of the jobs of the Product Manager. This is a key position within ITC companies which are now the leading research and development companies and demand high levels of excellence in a market that is constantly changing and more competitive as each day passes. This postgraduate course is seeking to provide the tools that participants with high levels of responsibility within their companies need to take the right steps to starting up a product or service in a high technology environment.

Discovering the key elements that make a business fail or succeed is one of the objectives of the Product Manager. They must understand elements of finance to be able to defend their business plans for a new product in front of a management committee. Among other things, they need to understand the regulatory environment within the telecommunications sector as mobile phone operators are regulated by rules that can decide whether a business can move forward or not. Most important of all, the Product Manager must know their market, how to react, which market segment they want to target with their product and who the competition is.

This newly created postgraduate course is divided into seven modules that cover all of the key elements that participants will need to learn to be able to lead innovation processes. To be precise, innovation is the common thread that drives everything and the thing that ITC companies need to distinguish themselves from the competition.

Adequately managing quality control is a fundamental part of any business strategy and a key factor that is valued in the marketplace. In a competitive environment one of the ways for a business to differentiate itself from competition with a similar profile is to provide clients with better customer satisfaction at a lower cost.

Quality is unseen, it is intangible, but it can be measured by using basic questions. On the one hand there is customer satisfaction and on the other the costs associated with poor quality which translate into warranty costs, claims and wasted time.

This pioneering master's course, which has already been being taught in Spain for the last 20 years, deals with the problems related to improving quality through the use of the EFQM excellence model (European Foundation for Quality Management). As well, the Six Sigma programs are presented to students as a proven efficiency improvement methodology.

Once the programme has finished, as well as being awarded a Master’s Degree, students will receive the following accreditations:

- Diploma in Six Sigma Green Belt awarded by the UPC’s Department of Statistics and Operations Research.
- Internal Auditor Diploma, ISO 9001:2008, awarded by TÜV SÜD Iberia.

The logistics sector is becoming a key player in the economic development of Spain. Over then next few years Catalonia will be considered the most important logistics platform for its region of activity, that is to say, all of southern Europe. An array of infrastructures that have created the proper conditions to help Catalonia become an important point of reference as a logistics centre is being built right now including: the expansion of the port and airport, the AVE extends service to Barcelona, and the Zona Franca and the Poligono del Prat are being promoted. And, if we look only 250 or 300 kilometres away, there are cities like Zaragoza or Valencia nearby, which provides Catalonia with an important strategic position. In light of all this it is evident that Spain needs professionals capable of designing, managing and applying new technologies to companie's logistics chains, distribution and transportation systems and logistics operators.

This Executive Master's course in Supply Management offers high level training and is oriented towards practical applications for businesses. This course is a gourmet product that, as a differentiating element, offers first rate speakers, logistics directors from some of the most important companies in the sector and professors specialised in logistics from the University of Cranfield (United Kingdom) and the Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña (UPC). This master's course also boasts strategic partners like Accenture and other corporate sponsors.

The UPC wants to boost training and research in logistics and has entrusted this mission to the Instituto de Organización y Control de Sistemas Industriales (The Institute for Industrial Systems Organisation and Control) which already includes this mission as one of the most important parts of their action plan. This year we have invited Franziska Ullmann, who will be giving the workshop: Patchwork Housing – Design for the diversity.

The traditional family model is going through a transformation and is paving the way for a large variety of forms of coexistence. However, most housing projects continue to be based on these standard models and do not meet the new and real needs.

This is why the main objective of Patchwork Housing is to look into what groups of persons form our current society and which are their needs. This information will help us to develop housing models which are useful for both temporary and long-term needs. To counteract the isolation and segregation existing in today’s society, it is necessary to plan housing for the largest range of peoples and households as possible.

This is an intensive workshop which will take place during one week, where we will be working based on the 22@ district in Barcelona, with the final aim of presenting a housing project that satisfies the highest level of complexity regarding everyday life situations.

This workshop will be taught in english.

Architecture has become a spearhead of the arts in the 21st century, and lately it has acquired a great dimension socially and a high capacity to attract the media. For this reason, architects must have a comprehensive vision of their job and an education that is both transversal and well-rounded.

This master's course offers students the tools they need for conceptual and technological architectural research, and will allow them to reflect on how construction has influenced the final approach of a project. This course, however, does not stop there, as it also includes a review of basic concepts that should help students look at a project in terms of management and promotion. As a result, students need to know how to analyse the viability of specific architectural operations.

Run by the renowned and prestigious architect Carlos Ferrater, founder of the Office of Architecture in Barcelona (OAB), this master's course will allow students to get a real life view of the profession by getting to know first-hand the way experienced architects work as well as work on actual example buildings that are under construction or already built.

This Master's course begins with the idea that future of architecture will be influenced by two different factors: Ecology and High Technology. Using this premise as a base and following sustainable development principles, the first part of this Master's course in Architecture and Sustainability provides students with classes focused on understanding, conscientiousness and knowing how to minimise the environmental impact of buildings and urban growth in general. This needs to be done without surpassing the capacity of different ecosystems and at the same time meeting the needs for comfort.

This course provides the theoretical and practical instruction in sustainable architecture that you need to oversee a construction project from start to finish: materials, passive solar energy strategies, energetically efficient installations that incorporate the active use of renewable energy sources, minimal waste production and its posterior treatment. The second part of this Master's course is focused on oversight systems, regulation and centralised management as well as the management tools that are used to optimise strategies for sustainable design: telecommunications infrastructures, domestic automation systems, automation and the amortisation of installations.

Apart from the regular classes, this course offers sessions with specialised businesses so students learn about new products and their applications. As well, students will use specialised software used for virtual physics simulations and energy efficiency assessment and will learn the rules of the new Código Técnico de Edificación (Technical Building Codes) and other current energy certifications. Students will learn about the design and calculation tools incorporated into projects and the principles of bioclimatic design by using practical application exercises.

Throughout this course there will be multiple visits to installations that are real life examples. This course will finish with a field trip to see examples of eco-neighbourhoods and sustainable buildings built in other countries within the European Union, all built using sustainable construction criteria.

Space is not one-sided. Everyone has their own concept of space, whether it is inside or outside, living spaces or space used for exhibitions. It is clear that for each of these processes you need a different mentality and a set of basic tools in order to gain an understanding of an empty space and the way to fill or not to fill it. Spaces are places where people do all kinds of activities, from the most private areas like living spaces to collective and participative spaces such as exhibition spaces. These can be enclosed spaces like museums or galleries or they can be part of urban or landscaping contexts.

The Master's in Design and Creation of Spaces brings different professional issues together and is built upon the basis of two different postgraduate courses. On the one hand there is the Interior Design postgraduate course that deals with the professional aspects of interior design, an area of illustrious tradition here in Barcelona that is truly one of a kind. This course seeks to fill a void in the educational offerings in this area that, until now, have not been available. On the other hand the postgraduate course Exhibition Space seeks to work with space as meeting point between people and culture within the framework of creative museography. By taking these postgraduate courses, being taught at the <a class="link" href="http://www.cccb.org/en/" rel="nofollow" title="Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona (CCCB)" (Centre for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona(CCCB), you can earn this Master's Degree in Design and Creation of Spaces.

Design is much more than simply sketching or defining forms, objects and products. For a long time now companies have been depending on Design Managers, professionals who work on design as a global process, to look beyond the obvious things that everyone sees. Design is an important asset for a company and it must be planned and managed strategically to provide a business or institution with an identity and a leading role in the market while helping it achieve profitability and customer loyalty.

Design Managers have the opportunity to demonstrate how design can help link creativity with innovation in a way that both concepts can create added value. Design can include a wide array of activities that include planning and developing procedures, technical specifications and other functional characteristics of new products or services.

The task of a Design Manager is to develop, organise, plan and oversee the design resources within an organisation. Products and services created in this way focus on the needs of the client and business objectives at the same time. This course seeks to make the Design Manger an official position given that this position already exists in companies and institutions and because up until now there has not been any specific training dedicated to this area of specialisation.

Organisations need a new style of leadership that provides values such as empathy, enthusiasm and the capacity to organize groups to work at their best possible level. If these organisations wish to quickly advance towards innovation and globalisation they must find new leadership parameters and people who are highly motivated, involved and autonomous. The leadership style of organisations is based on these conditions. The leader is always a point of reference and the model to follow. Their behaviour inspires those around them. In this course students will find the means used to develop a spirit of motivated leadership and equanimity that facilitates and assists their own professional development and that of the people they are managing.

This professional development must help professionals reach goals in aspects such as innovation, design, process improvement and problem management and problem solving as well. All of this implies doing things differently than they have been done before. This course is about innovation in the broadest sense of the word, as well as having a multidisciplinary vision of organizations and their strategies. The first step in any innovation process is understanding that things can and must be done another way. This postgraduate programme is being offered in an on-line format and works on highly transversal aspects of management and innovation. It seeks to promote interconnectivity between students and their tutors as well as with other students that will be working as teams in a highly participative way.

The current market climate in the automotive sector demonstrates a need for implementing new technologies that reduce dependence on petroleum and, most importantly, minimise pollution. There is a growing consciousness on the part of the consumer who wants to try to make their environmental impact as small as possible. This is why for a long time now the automobile industry and local governments have already been working on alternatives like hybrid vehicles and completely electric cars as a way to face the challenges of research, development and innovation involved with these types of vehicles.

The Ministry of Industry predicts that by the year 2020 around 250,000 vehicles incorporating this technology will be manufactured in Spain, all of which implies changes in the vehicles as well as certain infrastructures to be able to host this production. The different issues around recharge points, improvements in energy storage technology as well as legal issues like who pays for charging in housing communities have to be solved. All of these issues are on the table and the demand is imminent. In this sector there are already many instances of collaboration with engineers from other countries where they have more experience with this type of specialised vehicle.

This postgraduate program is not limited to simply providing information; it is also officially certified by the European Higher Education Area. The UPC School of Professional and Executive Development and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya are leading this programme with the support of a group of private and public companies and research centres in the automotive and energy sectors.
As things currently stand, 80% of our energy consumption is based on fossil fuels. These resources are of a finite nature and have an undeniable impact on our environment. This situation will only get worse if left unchecked over time as the world¿s population grows and the emerging nations strive to improve living conditions for their people, which inevitably involves gaining access to energy sources. This will lead to serious economic consequences given that any growth in demand will raise the cost of these resources.

Within this context, the UPC School has decided to put the spotlight on energy efficiency; one of the most important waypoints on the path to a more balanced world. This Graduate Degree in Energy Efficiency and Energy Markets offers its students a general overview of the current situation and exhaustive training on energy alternatives aimed at ending our dependency on such fuels as oil, coal and natural gas. Furthermore, the degree programme also highlights the need to adopt such measures as energy containment and saving.

This graduate degree programme is aimed at enabling students to identify energy needs within the home, the industrial sector or the construction sector. Students will also be able to detect weak spots in the production process of an industry or provide tools to gain knowledge of the energy market. The course is taught by both UPC faculty staff and professionals from specialised companies in the sector, who can offer real experiences from the professional world.

Everything around us has some characteristics allowing us to perceive a product and differentiate it from another; one of these features is their smell, another is their taste. We are constantly subjected to several olfactory or taste stimuli which cause different reactions in us, whether it be food (aromas) or other products (fragrances), natural or not, which have been created by specialists. This is the precise point we have set as our objective, to create specialists who create aromas and fragrances.

Evolution towards a new type of cuisine has revolutionized our eating habits and the way these relate to sensorial perceptions has yielded the best specialists in this field. Creating aromas to be added to foods makes it possible to relate aromas or flavours to the product it is added to. This requires having knowledge about the raw materials that can be used to prepare a certain composition. On the one hand, it is convenient to know the nature of these products, their chemical and organoleptic properties, about extracting natural products, the possibilities to analyse them and add them to a finished product, as well as the process of placing them on the market while observing the established legislation.

The aim of this postgraduate course in Aromas: Innovation, Applications and New Trends is to fill in the training gap which exists in this field in Spain. Until now, it was the companies who took charge of training their staff and very often the knowledge came from specialists who may even be from other countries. The priority of this programme is to train specialists who are able to put into practice the knowledge they have acquired in a large variety of industries, such as the food industry, oenology, pharmaceutics or the herbal industry.

As a discipline it has seen great success but until now there have not been any notable interior design educational offerings. This postgraduate course in Interior Design seeks to fill this void by offering a new program that awakens curiosity and sharpens the perception and sensitivity of participants. Interior design work starts where architecture leaves off and mainly deals with the empty spaces that have been created. It is the designer who has to keep the people who use the space in mind.

Up until now we have never seen so many different family models and different casuistries in terms of what are referred to as relational structures. People can live alone, with partners for a time period, or even with children and later without them, once they have become adults. This is why this postgraduate course totally breaks with the concept that has existed up until now; the concept that interior decorators or designers can do everything according to their own personal style and way of doing things. The personal needs of every individual and their situation have humbled professionals in this field.

This postgraduate course is still undergoing the process of integration into the European Higher Education Area and may be taken independently or as part of the Master's programme in Space Design and Creation. In this course students will work with perception and awareness, two important aspects to take into account when learning how to listen and respect the opinions of others. When designing interiors nothing is ever completely finalised, anything can be created and final and definitive changes will come when the client finally moves into the space. All of the class sessions will be taught at the <a class="link" href="http://www.cccb.org/en/" rel="nofollow" title="Centro de Cultura Contemporánea de Barcelona (CCCB)" (Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona).

The lighting in a space helps us to create emotions and feelings. A warmer climate, a magical one or a relaxing one, and even a sense of movement and dynamism: the lighting of a building or surrounding can convey all of this. This postgraduate course in Lighting Design offers a complete training programme in lighting which is the first of its kind in Barcelona and is essential to the design of both indoor and outdoor spaces.

Light is an element which can bring all the visual aspects which will characterize a space. When applying lighting to a space there is a combination of plastic and technical aspects. Dominating and balancing these components will turn light into a virtually prodigious element with a high potential of transformation, communication and generating senses. Students taking this course will, through practice, acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to design and project lighting and integrating it into a concrete space, from an emotional yet functional perspective.

The complex regulations on energy saving mean that lighting is not seen as a key element in the design of spaces which requires an ever greater professional specialization.

In this programme, several different projects are set, which reflect the different areas where a lighting designer works: indoor and outdoor spaces; commercial areas, exhibition spaces, urban landscapes, institutional buildings and others.

The current economic climate shows us that that the growth model that we have come to know and employ in the first world during the last decade is no longer productive. Circumstances have demonstrated that this model was based on some very weak financial pillars like construction, consumption and unskilled labour. If society and political decision makers want to give a renewed boost to the economy they must look to emerging and strategic sectors to do so. This Postgraduate Course in Regional Competitiveness seeks to be much more than just a course for entrepreneurs. It aspires to become public policy.

This course offers students top level content and includes the participation of prestigious Spanish and international speakers not only from academic and political spheres, but also professional experts from the economic development and promotion sectors as well. All of these people are working towards the goal of promoting use of networks and cooperation among regions. This postgraduate course will give professionals and public sector administrators the tools they need to generate financial benefits in their respective areas involvement.

This course is divided into different modules and pragmatically focuses on the master class taught by important Spanish and international speakers. The content taught will be developed in a Skills Workshop while participants simultaneously work on designing a final project which will showcase what they have learned in this class.

 <canal title_curt="THERMAL AND PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR INSTALLATIONS IN BUILDINGS AND INDUSTRIES" data_inici="" data_fi="" lloc="" tipus="" />

This postgraduate course is a fascinating trip into the future of solar energy, one of the most important renewable energies in Spain that we truly need to implement. Renewable energies must become a strategic priority in a world that depends on fossil fuel reserves and that is facing a future where energy demands are only going to increase. In the spirit of looking for clean and environmentally viable solutions this postgraduate course in Solar Thermal and Photovoltaic Installations in Buildings and Industries was created.

Construction regulations which proposed obligatory solar thermal panel installations in new buildings pointed towards greater development in this sector, but in the end this development was slowed down by the economic crisis. As a result, this course has adapted to the new outlook in this sector and has a taken on new focus that will help professionals better face this economic situation when looking for new locations to develop their area of specialization. This new perspective has made the solar thermal energy sector look for new markets like industrial installations, the tertiary sector and building renovation. Installation companies need to offer diversified services and present themselves as energy service companies. To make this model profitable it is very important to do extensive calculations of the production and optimization of the installations in question. This is why advanced calculation has become such an important part of this course.

One of the other points of focus in this course is solar photovoltaic energy. Up until now it has been used in configurations called "solar energy plantations" which are connected to the power grid and located outside metropolitan areas. For some years now the government has kept solar panel prices low but recently has reduced the amount of subsidies directed at this sector. Instead they have opted for an urban integration model of these "plantations" that are less speculative and at the same time more energetically rational. As a result the influence of the surrounding environment has gained new importance when it comes time to figure out the location of solar photovoltaic installations. The value of calculations and dynamic simulations will be made clear again in this course. This postgraduate course which has adapted to this new era in the sector has incorporated new professors, many of which are from the business world, and specialists in the solar energy sector. This course has become more practical and focused on the application of theoretical concepts. The market has imposed its will and the companies that are still in existence are the best ones. Cheap and under qualified installation companies are disappearing and specialised professionals are in need.

As well, this course will cover design and development aspects -simultaneous engineering- , quality related to results that are adjusted to essential requirements, advanced planning systems and ISO regulations. A project manager must understand the necessities and conditions for externalising processes, and performing advanced management techniques as well as dealing with financial and economic aspects. The management techniques taught in this course will allow students to reach the multiple objectives involved in project development at the necessary quality level and how to adjust to project specifications to the lowest possible cost and in the minimum time needed for their development.

In particular, the UPC School is providing this programme to develop a professional profile that focuses on multidisciplinary team leadership and coordination of all phases of a project. As well, this course offers you the opportunity to prepare for the Project Management Professional credential, a certification awarded by the PMI (Project Management Institute), the most well-recognised institution that creates quality standards accepted and used on a global level.

The definition of heritage goes well beyond the idea of material possessions or a family estate which is passed on from generation to generation. In fact there is an entire concept of heritage that makes up part of the history of communities and institutions, and it is their obligation to maintain it in optimum conditions. And even farther beyond these important objectives there are many forms of cultural expression, and all of their related documentation, that can be treasured. However, this course focuses on a heritage that has been studied less by historians, but that is by no means less important: our scientific, technical and industrial heritage, using Catalonia as the main point of reference.

Scientific, technical and industrial heritage is considered to be everything related to these activities, including research, but also incorporates the legacy that these areas have left behind in the form of written documentation, meeting minutes, photographs, objects and the buildings that housed these activities. The industrial communities or the manufacturing complexes that have taken on a different use for citizens today are also examples of this heritage.

The content in this course offers a theoretical and practical perspective on scientific, technical and industrial heritage. All of these issues are dealt with from a comparative perspective, that is to say, analysing the pioneering processes and their expressions within different cultural contexts. This course poses questions about what and how we should conserve this heritage and outlines the importance of the museography of science and technology. This course will be taught in English and French.
