Why this programme?

Building integral management (real estate and facility services) is becoming an area of vital importance for companies, as it allows optimizing the profitability of real estate assets and infrastructure, reducing the costs of maintenance and conservation in the operation phase, in addition to offering more competitive and appropriate facility services to its core business.

The diversity of activities included in the management of building conservation and facilities maintenance requires professionalism of the people in charge of this functional area of the companies, currently acting in a way of self-study and lacking methodology.

The professionalization of these activities has given way to what is known internationally as Facility Manager. This professional encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment, consisting of people, processes and technology. Its objective is to guarantee the maximum performance of the assets and the satisfaction of the clients towards the support services offered. In addition, the preservation of real estate assets, their maintenance and the management of these facility services must be developed under criteria of sustainability and energy efficiency, in commitment with the rest of the society. Therefore, it is a profile with an increasing demand for professionals.

The master's degree in Facility Management is considered to be a modular offer composed of two postgraduate courses, Facility Management Services and Control of Facility Management Services, and allow them to achieve the competencies of the management of real estate and services and their control, focusing on the economic aspects and on the technological applications.

Final Facility Management Project
  • There will be a teamwork consisting of the resolution of a case study format dissertation. The case study will involve the analysis of an heterogeneous building or real estate and students must bring together all the concepts discussed throughout the program.
  • At the end of the course, the team will defend the project before a tribunal formed by a representative part of the master's teaching staff.
Special master's degree issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain it, is necessary to have an official university qualification. Otherwise, the student will receive a certificate of completion of the programme issued by the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya.

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

Learning tools
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Solving exercises
Solutions are worked on by practising routines, applying formulas and algorithms, and procedures are followed for transforming the available information and interpreting the results.
Case studies
Real or hypothetical situations are presented in which the students, in a completely participatory and practical way, examine the situation, consider the various hypotheses and share their own conclusions.
Success stories
Outstanding business knowledge and experiences with high added value acquired during an outstanding professional career are presented and shared.
These visits are to specialist centres, companies in the sector or outstanding and important locations in the sector, in order to obtain knowledge in situ of development, production and demonstration environments within the programme.
Students are given technical support in the preparation of the final project, according to their specialisation and the subject matter of the project.
Assessment criteria
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Completion and presentation of the final project
Individual or group projects in which the contents taught in the programme are applied. The project can be based on real cases and include the identification of a problem, the design of the solution, its implementation or a business plan. The project will be presented and defended in public.
Work placements & employment service
Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. Hundreds of offers of the UPC School of Professional & Executive Development employment service appear annually. The offers range from formal contracts to work placement agreements.
Virtual campus
The students on this master's degree will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space allows students to find background material for their classes, to work in teams, ask their lecturers questions, consult their marks, etc.

    Technical Architect and Industrial Organization Engineer from the UPC. Building Engineer from the UJI. Professor at the Department of Architectural Technology of the UPC. She worked as a technical specialist at the Building Laboratory of the EPSEB, unveiling projects, reports and agreements about construction, maintenance and rehabilitation of buildings. She currently works as a technician at the Fire Lab of the EPSEB, collaborating in the investigation into fire behaviour of building materials and the spread of fires in buildings.
  • Cebrian Alseda, Joan
    Industrial Engineer from the UPC. With extensive ongoing training related to Facility Management, he is currently Director of Engineering and Maintenance at LABORATORIO ALDO-UNIÓN, Secretary of the Catalan Association of Facility Management and member of the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering. He has accumulated an experience of more than 30 years in services, teaching, hospital and pharmaceutical companies (FCC, UPC, Hospital Son Dureta, IPSEN PHARMA, ACCIONA), the last 30 in jobs that can be assimilated to the Facility Manager.

    Bachelor's Degree in Law from the University of Barcelona. Coach certified by ICF, Consultant and Training in Human Resources and Organization Projects.
  • Fontanals Perez-Portabella, Jose Maria
    Industrial Engineer, Master¿s Degree in Business Administration from ESADE. Founder and CEO of TOPproperty. Founder and member of the Board of the Catalan Association of Installation Management. Member of the sub-commission of self-protection plans of the COEIC, which worked for the last 20 years to manage real estate assets for Savills, family offices, developers and funds. He also worked in energy management (Endesa) and facilities companies, at Govoni Iberica and Elecnor, and has participated as an entrepreneur in projects in the education, leisure and human resources sectors.
  • Garcia Garcia, Antoni
    Industrial Engineer. Director of Infrastructures and General Services in the health logistics company. Consultant and auditor in energy management, with more than 20 years of experience. Previously, Head of Infrastructure and Maintenance of the Gran Teatre del Liceu. Awarded by the EESI2020, Energy Commission of the European Community, as the Best Energy Service Project, for the Liceu 2009-2015 Plan of Action. He is currently a member of Commissions and Working Groups of various Associations and Professional Associations in the field of efficient energy management and maintenance of buildings.

    Graduated in Industrial Engineering (specialty electricity) from the UPC. Master in Engineering (specialized in Industrial Organization) by the University of Vic. Postgraduate in Management of Integrated Quality Systems: Environment and PRL, by the UOC. Head of the Building Maintenance Service of the Diputación de Barcelona. More than 25 years of experience in the building sector, developing activities in all phases of the construction process (design, construction and post-construction). Currently focusing on tasks linked to the FM. With teaching concerns to share this experience.

    Architect from the UPC. Project Manager Professional (Certified PMP and PRINCE2) and current Facility Manager at the Department of Territory and Sustainability as Head of Internal Services. Currently, a member of the work tables for the creation of the FM training plan in the Public Administration, and a collaborating teacher at the Postgraduate in Facility Management at the Sert School. How to start admission
To start the enrolment process for this programme you must complete and send the form that you will find at the bottom of these lines.

Next you will receive a welcome email detailing the three steps necessary to formalize the enrolment procedure:

1. Complete and confirm your personal details.

2. Validate your curriculum vitae and attach any additional required documentation, whenever this is necessary for admission.

3. Pay €110 in concept of the registration fee for the programme. This fee will be discounted from the total enrolment fee and will only be returned when a student isn't admitted on a programme.
