Why this programme?
The Digital Transformation (DT) of businesses is a phenomenon that has been taking place in recent years alongside access to new technologies by users or customers, and it means that they have greater power when interacting with companies. It involves Businesses and Organisations integrating new digital Disruptive Technologies (IoT, Cloud, Big Data, Mobile, etc.) and adapting their organisation (Strategy, Processes, People and Technology) to new network-based business models (Digital Ecosystems) that respond to the preferences of Clients and Society. It entails a transformation in which decisions must go beyond the technological sphere, involving different management profiles (CEO, CIO, CMO, etc.), including the Chief Digital Officer (CDO).

This postgraduate course aims to help businesses and organisations to lead, design and execute their DT, through professionals, properly trained and knowledgeable of experiences and detailed case studies. Those attending will receive an eminently practical and applied vision which will enable them to create, design and execute the DT that their business or organisation needs.

Students will be able to conceptualise the DT based on 4 dimensions (Society and People; the Digital Strategy and Plan; Processes and Methodologies; and Platforms and Technologies) that are covered by the course, taking an evolutionary framework based on the Digital Degree of Maturity reached on each step that bring with a TD. The program is constantly updated with the newest and most innovative technologies, techniques and methods that are emerging as our Information Society evolves. Those attending to this postgraduate course will have an end-to-end holistic view of what TD represents in the company and its ecosystem as a whole, allowing them to adapt their business strategy and design/implement the transformations needed to achieve competitive advantages.

The programme will also cover various approaches, focusing on the most relevant cases of use in contemporary industry, in government bodies, large companies, SMEs and start-ups.

To ensure the aim of applicability, those attending will have to do -in a collaborative work team- a real DT project.

Finally, this training course aims to improve the positioning of organisations in our society, taking advantage of the opportunities provided by new technologies.
The main objective of the programme is to foster, design, build and execute Digital Transformation projects in businesses, organisations and institutions, in both the public and private sectors.
Achieving this objective implies assuming more specific aims, such as:
  • Understanding the scope, context and opportunities that digital transformation represents. Identifying and understanding the technologies that converge over time to shape the digital transformation.
  • Understanding a dynamic and evolutionary framework which enables digital transformation projects to be carried out in a progressive way that is appropriate to the possibilities of an organisation at a given time.
  • Analysing and evaluating opportunities for creating new lines of business, channels or products in the framework of digital transformation.
  • Evaluating in overall terms and integrating the available technologies to create initiatives or actions of value in the framework of Digital Transformation projects and their various dimensions (Strategic, People-Society, Processes-Tools, and Platforms-Technologies).
  • Being able to align the digital transformation strategy with the organisation's overall strategy; defining the optimum organisation that leads, executes and integrates the company's digital strategy into processes.
  • Identifying the governance needs related to the digital transformation project, in order to effectively lead projects and reinforce people's involvement at all levels, in a context of organisational change.
  • Acquiring knowledge of the methodologies and management mechanisms that can help to carry out new projects.
Who is it for?
  • Professionals who are responsible for their organisation's digital strategy, performing similar tasks to those of the Chief Digital Officer (CDO) and/or Chief Information Officer (CIO).
  • Other senior business strategy managers and members of the C-Suite (CEOs, CFOs, COO, CHRM, etc.), with knowledge of information technology as users and analytical thought.
  • Managers at a tactical level, especially in the areas of Marketing, Sales and Customer Services and technology, with knowledge of information technology and analytical thinking.
  • Information technology engineers, telecommunications engineers, industrial engineers, civil engineers, agronomy engineers, etc. wishing to specialise in the design and development of Digital Transformation projects.
  • Other graduates with a minimum knowledge of computer science, wishing to specialise in the design and development of Digital Transformation projects.
  • Professionals with experience in project and service management, interested on expanding and/or bringing up to date their knowledge to be able to take part in Digital Transformation projects.

Society and People
At the Society level, it contextualises the transition from a Consumer Society to a Services Society, in which knowledge becomes a key factor. It explains the impact of digital transformation on the world and on Society in general, on the transfer of knowledge and on the collaborative economy. It considers the implications of phenomena including: social networks and their management in institutions and companies, the digital transformation of the third sector, Smart Cities (IoT + Mobility Analytics), the new regulatory frameworks necessary related to robotisation, biotechnology and the growing risks associated with security issues.

At the People level, it defines the new working context determined by the global economy and cultural diversity, which determines the need to adapt and reorganise work. The new digital competences, digital leadership and the roles of the employee in the innovation processes are introduced. This is the concept of digital leadership and the new era of HR management, which includes new evaluation models, e.g. People Analytics.

These contents are structured according to the maturity levels defined by the digital transformation (Fundamentals-basic, Advanced and Expert).

Strategy and Digital Plan
This subject introduces the context that makes the Digital Transformation of institutions, organisations, SMEs and large companies necessary as a result of the emergence of disruptive technologies. It considers how to take advantage of the start-up ecosystem to innovate. The evolution of the Internet is explained, as well as the central role played by the client as a driver of change and as the centre of business strategies, presenting Apps and Gamification as resources for achieving a genuine connection with the client. Phenomena including e-commerce, Digital Marketing, Smart Commerce and Mobile Commerce, where business intelligence techniques and data analysis are crucial, are also strategically contextualised.
All these factors are used to present tools and techniques to position the company against the digital challenge, conceive of opportunities and threats, design and apply new business models, etc. In short, tools for considering and implementing the most appropriate digital strategy are provided.

Processes and Methodologies
This subject will contextualise the range of processes and methodologies that can be used when designing and implementing the digital transformation that an organisation or company needs. At the same time, the course establishes the theoretical-practical framework that will lead to the digital transformation in the practical case that will be worked on throughout the course.

At the level of Processes, the transformations necessary for each area are defined: Industry 4.0, robotisation, transport and logistics in the new global trade model, cybersecurity, etc.

After the theoretical-practical framework for digital transformation has been introduced, several methodologies that can be useful in each phase or stage are considered, including: Business Canvas, ITIL, Quickwins, LEAN, KAIZEN, AGILE, SCRUM, Service Blueprint, DevOps, Gamification and Serious Games among others. In overall terms, a digital transformation is aligned with business strategy, which can be managed at two speeds, if appropriate (Bimodal IT).

Finally, the subject explains how to consider whether digital transformation is profitable, and how to calculate the ROI from disruptive projects.

Platforms and Technologies
This subject identifies and explains the platforms and technologies that may be necessary and useful when designing and implementing the Digital Transformation of organisations and businesses. The evolution of technology is introduced and explained based on maturity cycles (Gartner's hype cycle curve). Mature and recent technologies are reviewed, including: ERPs, CRMs, SCMs, Business Intelligence, Visual Analytics, Machine Learning, Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, etc.

At the level of Platforms, the course looks at technologies related to Industry 4.0 models, Cloud models, e-Commerce environments, models based on Blockchain technology, and collaborative environment models in the company (Enterprise Collaborative Management).

Digital Transformation Project
This subject is directly related to the Digital Transformation project that the students will undertake during the course, in which they will apply the theory and tools studied in the other subjects in practice.

The project will have various outputs, which will be related to the degrees of maturity identified by the digital transformation projects. In specific terms, these are: basic transformation: understood context and functional minimum viable product; advanced transformation: improved functional viable product; and expert transformation: excellent functional viable product.

Some lecture highlighting successful cases of digital transformation will be scheduled, as well as lectures discussing the experience of CDOs in the management of these projects.
The UPC School reserves the right to modify the contents of the programme, which may vary in order to better accommodate the course objectives.
Postgraduate diplomas issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

Learning tools
Participatory lectures
A presentation of the conceptual foundations of the content to be taught, promoting interaction with the students to guide them in their learning of the different contents and the development of the established competences.
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Case studies
Real or hypothetical situations are presented in which the students, in a completely participatory and practical way, examine the situation, consider the various hypotheses and share their own conclusions.
Success stories
Outstanding business knowledge and experiences with high added value acquired during an outstanding professional career are presented and shared.
Students are given technical support in the preparation of the final project, according to their specialisation and the subject matter of the project.
Assessment criteria
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Level of participation
The student's active contribution to the various activities offered by the teaching team is assessed.
Completion and presentation of the final project
Individual or group projects in which the contents taught in the programme are applied. The project can be based on real cases and include the identification of a problem, the design of the solution, its implementation or a business plan. The project will be presented and defended in public.

Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. Hundreds of offers of the UPC School of Professional & Executive Development employment service appear annually. The offers range from formal contracts to work placement agreements.
Virtual campus
The students on this postgraduate course will have access to the My_ Tech_Space virtual campus - an effective platform for work and communication between the course's students, lecturers, directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space provides the documentation for each training session before it starts, and enables students to work as a team, consult lecturers, check notes, etc.

How to start admission
To start the enrolment process for this programme you must complete and send the form that you will find at the bottom of these lines.

Next you will receive a welcome email detailing the three steps necessary to formalize the enrolment procedure:

2. Validate your curriculum vitae and attach any additional required documentation, whenever this is necessary for admission.

3. Pay €110 in concept of the registration fee for the programme. This fee will be discounted from the total enrolment fee and will only be returned when a student isn't admitted on a programme.
