Why this programme?
The Architectural Rehabilitation and Restoration sector is currently one of the cornerstones of professional practice related to architecture, and it will continue to be in the future. This is a trend that has been gaining ground in Europe for several decades and is becoming an emerging global job market. The regulations, including the Technical Building Code (TBC), increase the level of responsibility of technicians, who are required to have exhaustive knowledge of buildings¿ constructive-structural and energy features.

The Postgraduate in Intervention Project in Architectural Heritage is the evolution of the master's program in Architectural Rehabilitation and Restoration, with a recognized track record of more than twenty years, in which specific pedagogical and methodological instruments have been developed, unique in the sector , which are applied in the development of a real rehabilitation project, to train professionals with an interdisciplinary vision of the fields of Architecture, Technical Architecture, and Engineering, as well as experts from other related disciplines.

This training offers students the methods, technical tools and attitudes needed for this specialised profile, as well as the possibility of joining a community interested in keeping abreast of the latest innovations which will help them more efficiently tackle the challenges of each project.

The training programme has an outstanding track record of more than ten years, during which time specific pedagogical and methodological instruments have been developed which are unique in the sector. They are then applied in the development of a real rehabilitation project to train professionals with an interdisciplinary vision of the fields of Architecture, Technical Architecture and Engineering, as well as experts in other related disciplines.

Aims
The main objective of the Postgraduate is to develop solid knowledge, skills and attitudes for the complete development of rehabilitation and restoration projects with a high level of specialization.

To achieve this, the secondary objectives are:

  • To develop knowledge, criteria and research methods to apply in the countless possible intervention cases, bearing in mind the nature and behaviour of historical constructions.
  • To understand the historical evolution and current situation of the criteria on how to address actions in an existing building considering its assets and possible uses.
  • Using the most recent international techniques, to master the process of completely evaluating all a building’s features and diagnosing its lesions and deterioration processes.
  • To recognize how the regulations in place affect historical, buildings, regardless of whether they are protected, and the methods to demonstrate ¿the highest degree of suitability possible¿, as required by the new TBC.
  • To become familiar with real different cases of projects and interventions in buildings presented by their own authors, and to analyse their subsequent documentation.
  • To gain the communication skills and tools needed to lead multidisciplinary teams, which are needed to both develop the projects and oversee construction.
