Why this programme?
This postgraduate programme consists of three parts: Analysis of Steel structures, concrete structures and soil mechanics. The first part focuses on the ability required to analyse structural behaviour statically and in continuous media, using different types of structures such as frameworks, flat frames, spatial structures, and the resistance of materials, matrix analysis of frameworks, the finite element method and modelling with calculation programs such as SAP, ROBOT or ETABS.

The second part is based on concrete structures involving knowledge of various types, post-tensioned structures, calculation of concrete structures and modelling with specific calculation programs such as ROBOT, SAP, CYPE and Tricalc.

The third part focuses extensively on the development of knowledge on the design and calculation of foundations and containment elements, such as geotechnical studies and modelling with specific calculation programs: SAP, ROBOT, CYPE, PLAXIS.

The curriculum has been prepared based on the experiences of the teaching team on previous courses at both university level and in the professional sphere. This provides the basis of reference for the contents of this programme, which is supported by the Association of Structural Consultants (ACE) and the Institute of Structural Studies (IEE), the leading institutions in the sector.

Degree
Postgraduate diplomas issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

Learning methodology

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

Learning tools
Participatory lectures
A presentation of the conceptual foundations of the content to be taught, promoting interaction with the students to guide them in their learning of the different contents and the development of the established competences.
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Solving exercises
Solutions are worked on by practising routines, applying formulas and algorithms, and procedures are followed for transforming the available information and interpreting the results.
Visits
These visits are to specialist centres, companies in the sector or outstanding and important locations in the sector, in order to obtain knowledge in situ of development, production and demonstration environments within the programme.
Assessment criteria
Attendance
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Work out projects
Studies on a specific topic, by individuals or groups, in which the quality and depth of the work is assessed, among other factors.

Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. Hundreds of offers of the UPC School of Professional & Executive Development employment service appear annually. The offers range from formal contracts to work placement agreements.
Virtual campus
The students on this postgraduate course will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators.     Doctor Architect Professor of the Department of Technology of Architecture of the UPC. He has been director of the Department of Architectural Structures and is a member of the research group LITA (Laboratory of Innovation and Technology in Architecture). He is a professor of several postgraduate and master's courses. He has participated in outstanding projects such as the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA) in the Science and Technology Park of Girona or the integral rehabilitation of the "Estación del Norte" in Barcelona.

  • Cabanillas Rodríguez, Jorge Luis
    BEng. (2000, Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, Lima) MSc. (2011, Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería; 2015, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) PE. PhD candidate, at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Sixteen years experience in analysis, design, construction and supervision of civil engineering structures (buildings, industrial facilities, long span roofs, bridges, etc.) located in seismic regions, mainly in South America. Expertise in structural analysis software: SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, CSiBridge, Perform 3D, CSiCol, among others. Founder and principal engineer at DISEÑO DE PROYECTOS EN INGENIERÍA (Perú). Representative of CSI (Computers & Structures, Inc.) for South America and Caribe. Wide teaching experience in professional courses for civil engineers and architects. Most remarkable designs: 520 m long railway cable-stayed bridge in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), arch bridges in Puyo (Ecuador) and Moquegua (Perú), among others.
  • Ledesma Villalba, Alberto
    BEng. MSc. PE. PhD. Full Professor of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Thirty years of teaching and research experience on that field, including numerical models in Geomechanics, back-analysis, unsaturated soils, landslides and soil dynamics. Supervisor of 12 Doctoral Theses. Participation and coordination in a number of Research Projects funded by European Commission. Over 150 publications, most of them papers published in international peer reviewed Journals. Geotechnical advisor of several companies and administrations, in Spain and other European and American countries, involving large excavations, urban tunnels and embankment dams. Active member of the International Committee controlling construction of high-speed train tunnel crossing Barcelona next to World's Heritage buildings.

How to start admission
To start the enrolment process for this programme you must complete and send the form that you will find at the bottom of these lines.

Next you will receive a welcome email detailing the three steps necessary to formalize the enrolment procedure:

1. Complete and confirm your personal details.

2. Validate your curriculum vitae and attach any additional required documentation, whenever this is necessary for admission.

3. Pay €110 in concept of the registration fee for the programme. This fee will be discounted from the total enrolment fee and will only be returned when a student isn't admitted on a programme.

Once the fee has been paid and we have all your documentation, we will assess your candidacy and, if you are admitted on the course, we will send you a letter of acceptance. This document will provide you with all the necessary information to formalize the enrolment process for the programme.
