Why this continuing education course?
Although there is a high consensus on the fact that urban planning has a fundamental importance in the implementation of measures to improve the climatic quality of cities and face global climate change, the professional practice of design and planning territorial and urban does not seem to have internalized it yet.

On the small scale there is extensive experience in bioclimatic urban design. In turn, with regard to buildings, there has been a major effort in recent years to increase energy efficiency, with the aim of simultaneously reducing the generation of greenhouse gases (directives 2002/91/EC and 2010 /31/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council on the energy efficiency of residential buildings).

However, on the large scale, that of urban and territorial planning, there does not seem to be a parallel awareness, being few initiatives that have been carried out so far to integrate the factors that influence climate change and, therefore, increase urban resilience.

This course in Urban Climate and Climate Change is born from the European project Competences for Sustainable City Development: Qualification Scheme for Climate Adaptation in Construction, Architecture and Planning (CLIM-CAP), as well as from the Urban-CLIMPLAN state project. It also takes as a reference the project La Isla de Calor Urbana: Effects on Climate Change and Modeling for Territorial and Urban Planning Strategies, financed by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) and the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).
