Why this programme?
Nowadays there is an evident evolution in the automotive sector towards vehicles that make an exhaustive use of electronic and communications technologies. Vehicles with all kinds of sensors and actuators (temperature, proximity, cameras, driving assistance, parking, ...), long and short range communications technologies (4G, 5G, RFID/NFC, WiFi, ...) and its associated services (Internet access, infotainment, teleoperation, ...) make driving more comfortable, reliable and safe. To provide vehicles with all these new functionalities, there are many companies, both national and international, which focus their efforts on the production of systems that allow vehicle factories to be at the vanguard in the market. These companies are currently an attractive destination for telecommunications and computer engineers with special interest in the development and programming of embedded systems.

The course in Embedded Systems for the Automotive Industry arises from the need to offer a first specialization for engineers who wish to focus their professional career towards the contribution in the development of these electronic communication systems. It has been designed by the Barcelona School of Telecommunications Engineering (ETSETB), in collaboration with research groups from different departments of the UPC and working groups of leading companies in the electronics sector for the automotive industry. Its contents include issues related to embedded software development, real-time operating systems, communication buses and reference architectures. In addition, the processes related to the evaluation, verification, validation and functional safety of the developed software are also studied. As a result, an interesting preliminary training is offered that allows graduates to enter with guaranteed success in this exciting industry.

The program will include the participation of professionals from FICOSA.
Train technical professionals in the design, development and implementation of embedded systems for the automotive sector, including validation and safety processes.
Who is it for?
The course is aimed at Engineers in Telecommunications and Computer Science with special interest in the development and programming of embedded systems and people who wish to guide their professional career towards the contribution in the development of electronic communication systems.

Lifelong learning diploma issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

Learning tools
Participatory lectures
A presentation of the conceptual foundations of the content to be taught, promoting interaction with the students to guide them in their learning of the different contents and the development of the established competences.
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Solving exercises
Solutions are worked on by practising routines, applying formulas and algorithms, and procedures are followed for transforming the available information and interpreting the results.
Assessment criteria
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Level of participation
The student's active contribution to the various activities offered by the teaching team is assessed.

Individual tests aimed at assessing the degree of learning and the acquisition of competences.
Work placements & employment service
Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. Hundreds of offers appear annually of the UPC School of Professional & Executive Development employment service .The offers range from formal contracts to work placement agreements.
Virtual Campus
The students on this lifelong learning course will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space allows students to find background material for their classes, to work in teams, ask their lecturers questions, consult their marks, etc.

  • Tort Pugibet, Albert
    Technical and responsible director of R & D in the unit of Digital Assurance & Testing of Sogeti Spain. He was a researcher and professor at the UPC, where he specialized in software engineering and quality assurance. He presented the doctoral thesis "Testing and Test-Driven Development of Conceptual Schemas". He has written several publications in specialized journals and has participated in international conferences. He currently coordinates the postgraduate course in Software Quality Control at the UPC and directs the Sogeti innovation laboratory (Sogeti Lab Spain).

How to start admission
To start the enrolment process for this programme you must complete and send the form that you will find at the bottom of these lines.

Next you will receive a welcome email detailing the three steps necessary to formalize the enrolment procedure:

1. Complete and confirm your personal details.

2. Validate your curriculum vitae and attach any additional required documentation, whenever this is necessary for admission.

3. Pay €110 in concept of the registration fee for the programme. This fee will be discounted from the total enrolment fee and will only be returned when a student isn't admitted on a programme.

Once the fee has been paid and we have all your documentation, we will assess your candidacy and, if you are admitted on the course, we will send you a letter of acceptance. This document will provide you with all the necessary information to formalize the enrolment process for the programme.
