Why this programme?
In the forthcoming years, the current increase in the number of projects and construction on existing buildings will not decrease but instead will rise steeply, becoming one of the cornerstones of any professional practice related to architecture. This is a trend which has been gaining ground in Europe for decades.

In order to deal with most rehabilitation and restoration projects and construction interventions, interdisciplinary cooperation is essential, as it allows all the essential aspects of existing buildings to be considered. However, the contents of higher education programmes related to building, history, archaeology or materials conservation and restoration have barely changed since they were first envisioned as almost independent and highly specialised disciplines. Today, the inherent, non-transferrable duties of each professional require a common framework of knowledge, as well as a rigorous shared methodological process which enables the right decisions to be taken on the project and construction intervention within a context of joint dialogue and reflection.

The continuous training course in Historical Construction and Intervention Criteria in Architectural Rehabilitation and Restoration brings a new alternative targeted particularly at professionals specialising in fields like history, documentation, archaeology, restoration, geology, etc., who are interested in the field of architectural rehabilitation and restoration. This course brings together the experience of the Master’s in Architectural Rehabilitation and Restoration: From the Performance Evaluation (TBC) to the Intervention Project, and it is taught by prestigious faculty from academia with extensive, renowned professional experience in the sector.

  • To develop the procedures needed to be able to perform in this professional field through an Objective-Systemic Method which enables the different variables in historical constructions to be integrated.
  • To establish consensual, interdisciplinary working procedures to optimise the decisions in projects and construction sites.
  • To equip professionals with knowledge and criteria on the historical ways of building.
  • To understand the evolution of the fields of rehabilitation and restoration of existing buildings, from their origins to their current status, with a special emphasis on heritage buildings.
