Why this programme?
The objective of this module is to make known the proper functioning of the different mechanical equipment and maintenance techniques associated with each equipment.

It deals with the problem of the different elements and mechanical systems (couplings, gears, etc.), as well as their respective maintenance.

Lubrication, the basic element of mechanical maintenance, is the object of study in a very special way.

We must also highlight, among others, the importance of maintenance, non-destructive testing and vibration analysis, as well as the application of corrective techniques.

In the course a maintenance plan will be developed and different laboratory practices will be carried out.
Aims
  • To provide maintenance technicians with comprehensive knowledge in industrial installations and techniques to be able to avoid breakdowns using proper testing and diagnostics.
  • To offer the means and knowledge needed to resolve breakdowns quickly and safely.
Who is it for?
  • Technical engineers or superiors.
  • Technicians and professionals from the industry who want to specialise, update or expand their knowledge in the field of industrial maintenance, even if they do not have a university degree.
  • To people who come from Vocational Training or Higher Level Training Cycles.

Installations and Electric Equipment Maintenance
  • Mechanical elements and systems. Mechanisms and types of failure. ¿ Root cause analysis.
  • Lubrication: Fundamentals. Properties and types of lubricants. Analytical techniques applicable to industrial oils: Spectrometry, Ferrography, Particle count. Basic physical-chemical tests: Viscosity, Flash point, ash content, alkalinity and acidity, Water content, dielectric strength.
  • Interpretation of real lubrication laboratory analysis reports. Updating and execution of the lubrication plan in a beverage packaging plant. Study of real results based on established control ratios (KPI).
  • Maintenance of mechanical fastenings.
  • Maintenance of gears.
  • Maintenance of couplings.
  • Belt maintenance.
  • Axle support systems maintenance: Rolling bearings.
  • Axle support systems maintenance: Friction bearings.
  • Application of corrective techniques in mechanical maintenance: Alignment of axles.
  • Application of corrective techniques in mechanical maintenance: Balancing of rotors.
  • Non Destructive Tests (NDTs); visual inspection, penetrating liquids, magnetic particles, leakage tests, induced currents, industrial radiography, ultrasonic tests (conventional ultrasound, TofD, Phased Array, acoustic emission, guided waves). Real cases of application: Rail Sector, Energy Sector, Aeronautical Sector, Shipping Sector and Automotion.
  • Application of vibration analysis in the diagnosis of mechanical failures. Signs and faults in machine components; axles, rotor/stator, rolling bearings, bearings, gears, pulleys, blades, cogs.
  • Review of the cause of vibration diagnosis: imbalance, misalignment, looseness, eccentricity, rubbing, bent axis, resonances.
  • Parametrisation of types of failure for different types of machine. Engines, pumps, fans, compressors.
  • Methodology and practical guide for troubleshooting breakdowns by vibration analysis.
  • Examples and case studies of analysis and diagnosis.
  • Practical laboratory session.
The UPC School reserves the right to modify the contents of the programme, which may vary in order to better accommodate the course objectives.
Degree
Lifelong learning diploma issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

Participatory lectures
A presentation of the conceptual foundations of the content to be taught, promoting interaction with the students to guide them in their learning of the different contents and the development of the established competences.
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Case studies
Real or hypothetical situations are presented in which the students, in a completely participatory and practical way, examine the situation, consider the various hypotheses and share their own conclusions.
Assessment criteria
Attendance
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Level of participation
The student's active contribution to the various activities offered by the teaching team is assessed.
Solving exercises, questionnaires or exams
Individual tests aimed at assessing the degree of learning and the acquisition of competences.

Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. The students on this lifelong learning course will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators.     Degree in Technical Industrial Engineering, specialising in Industrial Electronics from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. Trade Delegate at Lacroix Sofrel.

    Degree in Technical Telecommunications Engineering, and a Master's Degree in Industrial Maintenance and Diagnostic Techniques. ISO 18436 Certified Instructor by the Mobius Institute. Member of the Spanish Maintenance Association (AEM) with responsibilities as part of the Executive Committee, the training area and secretary of the Chemical and Process Engineering Committee. Since 2017, he has been the CEO and Founder of the company IntegraPdM, which is aiming to become a benchmark as an institution for certified training and the integration of predictive techniques and technologies.

    Degree in Civil Marine Engineering, Shipping Machinery, Doctor in Civil Marine Engineering. Full-time lecturer at the UPC since 1991. He currently works as a tenured university lecturer, as well as Academic secretary of the Nautical Faculty of Barcelona, and previously as a Machinery Officer in the Merchant Marine.

How to start admission
To start the enrolment process for this programme you must complete and send the form that you will find at the bottom of these lines.

Next you will receive a welcome email detailing the three steps necessary to formalize the enrolment procedure:

1. Complete and confirm your personal details.

2. Validate your curriculum vitae and attach any additional required documentation, whenever this is necessary for admission.

3. Pay €110 in concept of the registration fee for the programme. This fee will be discounted from the total enrolment fee and will only be returned when a student isn't admitted on a programme.

Once the fee has been paid and we have all your documentation, we will assess your candidacy and, if you are admitted on the course, we will send you a letter of acceptance. This document will provide you with all the necessary information to formalize the enrolment process for the programme.
