Why this programme?

The course includes references to Big Data in the Smart Cities environment and its potential for monitoring citizens' activities. The data generated by citizens is explained by means of successful experiences of pioneering local institutions in the implementation of GIS.

Methods of urban analysis are explored by combining the standard data with new emerging formats oriented towards multiple objectives for the analysis of differential urban characteristics, densities, differential build able areas, among other approaches. The course also defines a strategy for a standard geolocation procedure. Various approaches to search criteria and types of parameterization of urban data are established to that end.

Various platforms are used during the course, including ArcGis, QGIS and Geoomedia. For better monitoring of the program, it is advisable to have advanced knowledge of ArcGis and QGIS. In the case of not having this knowledge, the possible access of the interested parties will be studied personalized.

Aims

To be able to use specific GIS programs suitable for producing proposals for study or management by the local institution.
To provide effective knowledge of advanced 3D visualisation mapping formats.
To develop examples of Geolocation, Geomarketing and mobility strategies.
To enable students to learn, modify and generate new ideas within a creative and dynamic model.

In theory, any professional wishing to work with data with a geospatial component is qualified to take the master's degree, and as such its students can come very diverse and numerous fields.

Local GIS: Smart Management

Introduction to Smart Cities.
Experiences and case studies.
Definition, bases, descriptors and parameters of the city.
Application workshop: Calculating urban fabric indicators in ArcGis.
Advanced experiences in local management:

The GIST - the engine for transparency, resilience and the Smart City.
Projects and new initiatives linked to open data.

Application workshop: Preparing databases for urban analysis in the GIS in a local tool in ArcGis.

Processing land registry data, planning and other open data sources.
Representing results on 3D maps and volumes.

Geomarketing and Geolocation Strategies

Introduction to using GIS tools in Geolocation and Geomarketing in GeoMedia.
Application workshop: geolocation and mobility analysis and strategies.

Degree

Lifelong learning diploma issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion. (Ver datos que constan en el certificado).

How to start admission

To start the enrolment process for this programme you must complete and send the form that you will find at the bottom of these lines.

Next you will receive a welcome email detailing the three steps necessary to formalize the enrolment procedure:

1. Complete and confirm your personal details.

2. Validate your curriculum vitae and attach any additional required documentation, whenever this is necessary for admission.

3. Pay €110 in concept of the registration fee for the programme. This fee will be discounted from the total enrolment fee and will only be returned when a student isn't admitted on a programme.

Once the fee has been paid and we have all your documentation, we will assess your candidacy and, if you are admitted on the course, we will send you a letter of acceptance. This document will provide you with all the necessary information to formalize the enrolment process for the programme.
