Why this seminar?
In Europe, the mobility sector is a crucial component of economic stability and growth. It has a significant multiplier effect by bringing many sectors and business services together along the value chain, in addition to direct employment at vehicle manufacturers and component suppliers. The ability of professionals to keep up with the rising rate of technology-driven change depends on their ability to adapt quickly. Integrated transportation services and disruptive technologies are enabling a growing number of smart solutions, increasing competitiveness and obviating the need for restrictions. To meet these new challenges, professionals who have been trained in a century-old industry with a traditional way of working will need to continue their education.

Understanding state-of-art ICT technologies is fundamental to be ready for the future of urban mobility. Thus, the future professionals should acquire significant knowledge of the different urban and vehicle communication systems, positioning and sensorisation necessary for a progressively autonomous mobility of people and goods. Furthermore, professionals should have clues on how artificial intelligence, computer vision or high definition maps algorithms work, as well as how database systems are managed.

Learning methodology

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

For subjects 1 to 4, there is a self-study period of two or three weeks after the synchronous learning that includes:
  • 2 or 3 micro-moocs: short video-lessons with some learning material to complete.
  • A short project that will be proposed in class, with the possibility to have academic and Industrial tutoring during this off-line period. If you are taking the seminar 'Innovation and Start-up Ecosystem in Urban Mobility', this project will be related to your start-up project.


Learning tools
Participatory lectures
A presentation of the conceptual foundations of the content to be taught, promoting interaction with the students to guide them in their learning of the different contents and the development of the established competences.
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Solving exercises
Solutions are worked on by practising routines, applying formulas and algorithms, and procedures are followed for transforming the available information and interpreting the results.
Case studies
Real or hypothetical situations are presented in which the students, in a completely participatory and practical way, examine the situation, consider the various hypotheses and share their own conclusions.
Tutorship
Students are given technical support in the preparation of the final project, according to their specialisation and the subject matter of the project.
Advanced asynchronous communication
Systems that enable smooth and clear communication in any situation (video chats, forums, recorded lectures, etc.).
Assessment criteria
Attendance
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Solving exercises, questionnaires or exams
Individual tests aimed at assessing the degree of learning and the acquisition of competences.
Work out projects
Studies on a specific topic, by individuals or groups, in which the quality and depth of the work is assessed, among other factors.

She is currently vice-rector and professor at the Department of Business Organization at UPC. She is a member of the TechTalent-Lab and the Supply Chain and Operations Management research group. She has led research and technology transfer projects in the field of operations and supply chain, a field in which she publishes internationally. She is associate editor of the scientific journals Journal of Urban Mobility and Expert Systems with Applications.

    She holds a degree and a doctoral degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). Currently, she is an associate professor at UPC and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in signals and systems, audiovisual coding, deep learning and biometrics. She collaborates with CARNET and is the academic director at UPC of the KIC on Urban Mobility. She has been associate dean and dean of the Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineering of Barcelona (ETSETB) and vice rector for Institutional Relationships at UPC. In the past, she was a visiting scholar at Northeastern University and at the University of Southern California.

He joined Tecnalia in 2006 where he has been developing research in the area of artificial intelligence and big data, mainly applied in the realm of mobility. He is the scientific director of the Smart Mobility Lab in Tecnalia, which is a digital lab specifically devoted to develop new algorithmic solutions.
