Adequate maintenance of industrial equipment and installations requires their proper setup and implementation. In this postgraduate course students will learn about the necessary conditions required to keep equipment in proper working order as well as the different maintenance techniques associated with each type of equipment.

A maintenance technicians needs to have comprehensive knowledge of industrial installations as well as possess an understanding of the techniques for prevention and rapid and effective resolution of equipment break downs.

The industry professionals, who are acting as professors on this course, add a very practical element to the student's experience.


  • To become familiar with the means and techniques needed to set up equipment and quickly and safely resolve problems that come up in industrial installations.
  • To diagnose and prevent break downs in installations.

Installations and Electric Equipment Maintenance

  • Lubrication: Fundamentals. Properties and types of lubricants. Analytical techniques applicable to industrial oils: Spectrometry, Ferrography, Particle count. Basic physical-chemical tests: Viscosity, Flash point, ash content, alkalinity and acidity, Water content, dielectric strength.
  • Interpretation of real lubrication laboratory analysis reports. Updating and execution of the lubrication plan in a beverage packaging plant. Study of real results based on established control ratios (KPI).

  • Axle support systems maintenance: Rolling bearings.

  • Non Destructive Tests (NDTs); visual inspection, penetrating liquids, magnetic particles, leakage tests, induced currents, industrial radiography, ultrasonic tests (conventional ultrasound, TofD, Phased Array, acoustic emission, guided waves). Real cases of application: Rail Sector, Energy Sector, Aeronautical Sector, Shipping Sector and Automotion.
  • Application of vibration analysis in the diagnosis of mechanical failures. Signs and faults in machine components; axles, rotor/stator, rolling bearings, bearings, gears, pulleys, blades, cogs.
  • Review of the cause of vibration diagnosis: imbalance, misalignment, looseness, eccentricity, rubbing, bent axis, resonances.
