This lifelong learning course is also part of the training track for the master's degree Urban Planning and Sustainability and the postgraduate course Urban Environment And Sustainability.

A pesar de que existe un elevado consenso acerca de que el planeamiento urbano tiene una transcendencia fundamental para informar, coordinar e implementar medidas para mejorar la calidad climática de las ciudades frente al cambio climático global, la práctica profesional del diseño y planeamiento territorial y urbano aún no parece haberlo interiorizado.

En la “pequeña escala” existe una amplia experiencia de diseño urbano bioclimático. A su vez, a nivel de edificio se ha producido en los últimos años un importante esfuerzo para aumentar la eficiencia energética, con el objetivo de reducir de forma paralela la generación de GEI (Directivas 2002/91/CE y 2010/31/UE del Parlamento Europeo y del Consejo relativas a la eficiencia energética de los edificios residenciales).

En la “gran escala” sin embargo, la del planeamiento urbano y territorial, no parece existir una sensibilización paralela, siendo escasas las iniciativas que hasta ahora se han llevado acabo para integrar los factores que inciden en el cambio climático y por tanto aumentar la resiliencia urbana.

El presente curso nace del proyecto europeo CLIM-CAP Competences for sustainable city development: Qualification scheme for Climate Adaptation in Construction, Architecture and Planning, así como del proyecto estatal Urban-CLIMPLAN. La isla de calor urbana: efectos en el cambio climático y modelado para estrategias de planeamiento territorial y urbano financiado por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (MINECO) y el Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER).


Este curso está acreditado Unión Europea, de acuerdo con la Norma ISO EN 17024, que tiene como objetivo general:

  • Ofrecer a los profesionales que desarrollan su ejercicio profesional en el ámbito de la arquitectura y el urbanismo: la cualificación, las competencias y los conocimientos prácticos necesarios para el desarrollo sostenible de la ciudad en el campo de la adaptación de las zonas urbanas al cambio climático.

Academic management

  • Roca Cladera, Josep
    Doctor in Architecture, UPC Professor. Director of the UPC Centre for Land Valuation Policy. The director of the Doctorate in Urban and Architectural Management and Valuation, which is unique in its kind in Spain as it combines the economic, legal, social and environmental processes involved in town and regional planning. He has written numerous articles related to the real estate economy, the analysis of territorial structures and the city. His most outstanding books focus on the theoretical analysis of the formation of land value and the practical application of valuation methods. Professor Roca is a leading figure in the Spanish and international sphere in the field of valuations, and especially those related to urban management processes. He has been a pioneer in Spain in teaching valuations at graduate level since from the appearance of master's degree courses in the early 1980s.
  • Arellano Ramos, Blanca Esmaragda
    Architect. Holder of a master's degree in Urban Management and Valuation from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. An associate lecturer at the Department of Architecture Technology of the ETSAB, a researcher at the Centre for Land Valuation of the Policy Polytechnic University of Catalonia and a member of the Urban Quality of Life and Sustainability research group. She has undertaken and directed research in the areas of urban planning, land and housing policy, and analysis of urban growth processes: Sprawl vs. Compact City, sustainable urban planning, sustainable mobility, public space, urban regeneration, civic culture, benefits and models of city management. She has held various public sector positions in the areas of housing, land, urban development and ecology, as well as regional and urban planning.

Lifelong learning diploma issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official or recognized university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or diploma. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

Virtual Campus
The students on this Lifelong learning course will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space allows students to find background material for their classes, to work in teams, ask their lecturers questions, consult their marks, etc.
Employment service
Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. Hundreds of offers appear annually of the UPC School of Professional & Executive Development Employment service .The offers range from formal contracts to work placement agreements.
