UPC School

This lifelong learning course can be attended as part of the postgraduate course Maintenance of Equipment and Installations.


  • To provide maintenance technicians with comprehensive knowledge in industrial installations and techniques to be able to avoid breakdowns using proper testing and diagnostics.
  • To offer the means and knowledge needed to resolve breakdowns quickly and safely.



Installations and Electric Equipment Maintenance
4 ECTS. 39 teaching hours.
  • Mechanical maintenance concepts. Intensity and common operating parameters.
  • Cleaning methods and systems. Lubrication.
  • Real life cases with a lift.
  • Mechanism for broken parts and mechanical devices. Non-destructive testing procedures. Bearings. Joints. Cables.
  • Suspension system elements: shocks and springs. Rubber noise reduction pads.
  • Alternative thermal motor devices: oil analysis and coolant. Predictive parameter testing.
  • Pneumatic equipment: alternative compressors. Air leaks. Locating break downs in installations.
  • Real life cases in maintenance management using a float of rail vehicles.
  • Vibrations with a degree of freedom in mechanical systems. Physics concepts.
  • Free and forced vibrations.
  • Transmission and isolation of vibrations.
  • Static and dynamic balance of rotating masses.
  • Rotor balance analysis.
  • Vibration measurement fundamentals.
  • Transducers: types. Diagnosing machine breakdowns.
  • Low frequency defect analysis.
  • Techniques for tracking and diagnosing break downs.
  • High frequency flaw analysis. Real-life cases.
  • Solving real life cases.
  • Thermography.

Lifelong learning diploma issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official or recognized university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or diploma. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

Virtual Campus
The students on this Lifelong learning course will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space allows students to find background material for their classes, to work in teams, ask their lecturers questions, consult their marks, etc.

Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially.
