This lifelong learning course can be attended as part of the master's degree Geographical Information Systems or as part of the postgraduate course GIS Technologies.

The expansion of geoinformation via the Internet offers users many opportunities to access and use for the creation of new applications in the field of geo location.

This information is accessible via standards adopted by the industry as a means of GIS Web programming APIs documented.

Therefore it requires a mastery of both web programming languages, protocols standards for access to the basics of geoinformation as geolocation.

Visualization and data processing, is another key point to present our data in an understandable way, we should know the formats, visualization techniques and treatment of geometry and geodata in web applications.

The program is realized in the form of distance learning. Students held several workshops and practical classes will be compulsory and graded. For the implementation of practices outside the classroom, students have support manuals and assistance from teachers.


GIS Internet Technologies
10 ECTS. 72 teaching hours.
  • Introduction to server coverage and OGC.
  • Webmaping ¿ Software: client and server. MNU installation.
  • Display WMS: Leaflet, cesium 3D GoogleMaps and QGIS.
  • Creation of Mashupps. Lealfet.
  • Creation of Mashupps. Cesium 3D.
  • Creating Mashups. GoogleMaps.
  • Examples with advanced Leaflet.
  • SDI and other emerging technologies.

Academic management

  • Guimet Masó, Anna
    Licenciada en Económicas por la UPF, Máster en Sistemas de Información Geográfica por la FPC. Técnica de la Unidad de Sistemas de Información Geográfica al Departamento de Agricultura de la Generalitat (DAAM). Coordinadora desde el 2010 de los módulos tecnológicos y profesora de Herramientas SIG (ArcGIS, QGIS y gvSIG).

Teaching staff

  • Farriol Vilà, Ferran
    Licenciado en Ciencias Ambientales por la UdG, máster en Sistemas de Información Geográfica por la UPC, posgrado en Gobierno Electrónico por la UPF, y máster en Alta Función Directiva por la EAPC. Se inició en el mundo del SIG como técnico en el Centro de Estudios del Transporte de la Mediterránea Occidental (CETMO). Posteriormente, y durante 8 años, desplegó y gestionó el SIG corporativo del Ayuntamiento de Castellar del Vallès. Actualmente en el Consorcio AOC es Jefe de Proyectos Organizativos y responsable del Servicio Geolocal, que fomenta la generación e intercambio de geoinformación.
  • Pascual Ayats, Victor
    Licenciado en Geografía por la Universidad de Girona con más de 20 años de experiencia en programación en SIG. Trabaja en el ICGC (Instituto Cartográfico y Geológico de Catalunya) en el Área de GeoTecnologías dentro del grupo de innovación GeoStart.

Lifelong learning diploma issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official or recognized university degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree or diploma. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

Virtual Campus
The students on this Lifelong learning course will have access to the My_Tech_Space virtual campus, an effective work and communication platform for students, lecturers and course directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space allows students to find background material for their classes, to work in teams, ask their lecturers questions, consult their marks, etc.
Employment service
Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. Hundreds of offers appear annually of the UPC School of Professional & Executive Development Employment service .The offers range from formal contracts to work placement agreements.
