Self-knowledge and Leadership in Engineering and Architecture

Postgraduate course. Face-to-face.

UPC School

Engineering and architecture professionals have a technical background that enables them to carry out complex projects with great effectiveness. However, the positions to which they have access add other requirements as they progress professionally. These are positions in which leadership, teamwork and interpersonal relations are very important. Facing these new professional challenges without proper training can lead to situations of stress, frustration and poor performance.

The aim of this Postgraduate Diploma in Self-knowledge and Leadership in Engineering and Architecture is to help professionals in this field develop skills and attitudes that enable them to manage teams and organisations. The skills that will be acquired will help them cope with problems and identify opportunities creatively and strategically, communicate effectively with their co-workers and engage in self-management in difficult situations. They will thereby be able to train and motivate work teams and put them into action.

Leadership must be exercised based on the here and now, from the circle of influence of the person who exercises it. The development of full attention is therefore a fundamental management skill. Full attention emphasises the ability to stop and reflect before acting, in order to engage in behaviour that is more effective and adapted to events. To that end, the postgraduate programme includes a stress reduction programme based on full attention (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction) which ends with an experiential one-day retreat.

• To provide engineering and architecture professionals with resources to progress professionally towards managerial roles, making professional activity compatible with personal development.
• To use self-knowledge for stress management and professional improvement.
• To incorporate effective communication into your daily work.
• To develop your personal brand.
• To apply conscious leadership to improve the performance of your team.
• To lead teams and people to implement action plans effectively. Participants in the self-knowledge programme will cover leadership, directing teams and people, and effective communication.

Who is it for?

Engineering and architecture professionals with prospects of professional development towards management positions. Potential participants should therefore have a prior bachelor's degree or master's degree, or have professional experience.
