This postgraduate course can be attended as part of the master's degree Geographical Information Systems.

The GIS (Geographical Information Systems) is an organized integration of hardware, software and geographic data designed to capture, store, analyze and display geographically referenced information. In the society we live in, this information is important because it is a strategic asset that provides knowledge and added value to organizations today. These technologies include exceptional abilities to work the land, offer new ways of understanding and managing our environment.

The implementation of geoinformation ie GIS requires the modernization of systems and teams from all types of organizations dedicated to spatial planning, urban planning and local management. The aim of the course is the training and reorientation of professionals related to the management and territory, and the local municipal or others requiring incorporate new Geographic Information Technologies (GIT).

The course combines the approach to the bases of study, case studies and workshops on implementation of GIS methods and computer techniques, aimed at improving the management and organization of territorial information, geoinformation municipal treatment and management

Students work to build descriptors, indicators and analysis parameters territorial and municipal levels, in the development of 3D mapping display data from advanced experiences in local management linked open data and new concepts of Smart City among others. Also in application workshops: Analysis and Strategies geolocation, Geomarketing and mobility. Cus used in different platforms such Arcgis Geoomedia and others.

As a distinguishing feature from other courses the high performance of practical learning that provides a good level of work autonomy and good technical training to meet skills level in GIS geospatial data integration in the world of company creation consulting projects or implementation of GIS, studies and documents based territorial management, urban planning or implementation of local GIS.

The teaching staff has extensive experience in implementing GIS projects in industry and government projects as proved developed at the Laboratory of Virtual Modelling of the city's GIS area.

The student acquires computer skills and skills applying basic concepts, guidelines and components to create effective GIS project in this line


  • Know the main bases and sources of information, content and operational processes related to spatial analysis.
  • To acquire technical capacity to carry out a structured process of analysis of territorial information in a GIS.
  • Design, implement computing systems to develop descriptors, indicators and analysis parameters territorial and municipal levels.
  • Skill in the use of GIS programs specifically suited to generate proposals for study of the local management.
  • Provide a good knowledge of advanced mapping formats 3D visualization.
  • Develop strategies Geolocation examples, and mobility Geomarketing.
  • Ability to learn, modify and generate new ideas in a creative and dynamic model.
