Academic management

  • Sabaté Bel, Joaquim
    Doctor in Architecture and Economist. Professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning (UPC). Coordinator of the PhD in Urban Planning and of the Official Research Masters in Urban Planning. Conferences, seminars, master's courses and doctorates in more than fifty universities of Europe, Asia, North and Latin America. Research activity on the tools, methods and theories of urban development project, and the relationship between patrimonial resources and local development. All this has been translated in more than a hundred of books or book chapters, and in projects recognized four times in the National Awards of Planning.

Teaching staff

  • Batlle Durany, Enric
    Architect, PhD in architecture in 2002 with the thesis recently published by GG entitled 'The Garden of the Metropolis' and Professor in the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning of ETSAV. He's specialized in landscaping and has given numerous lectures worldwide. In 1981, together with Joan Roig, creates BATLLE Y ROIG ARQUITECTES, an architectural firm that develops building projects, planning and landscape. His work has won awards both state and international level.
  • Bergadà Masquef, Jordi
    Architect for the ETSAB, professional office in Reus from 1983 to present, several projects of architecture, public spaces and urban design, promoting both public and private, member of Departament of Culture of Demarcation of Tarragona COAC 1992-96. President of this Demarcation 1996-2010, Member of the COAC Governing Board 1996-2012, member of the Commission of Urbanism of Catalonia 2003-2011 and Councilor of Architecture and Urbanism of the City of Reus 1999-2011.
  • Carrera Alpuente, Josep Maria
    Arquitecto y Economista. Director de Planeamiento del Instituto de Estudios Territoriales. Coordinador del Plan Territorial Metropolitano de Barcelona.
  • Castell Puig, Carles
    Biólogo. Doctor en Ecología y Máster en Función Directiva y en Gestión Ambiental en el Mundo Rural. Actualmente es Jefe de la Oficina de Planificación y Anàlisis Territorial de la Diputación de Barcelona (Área de Territorio y Sostenibilidad), desde donde colaboró en la elaboración del PTMB. La aportación de su equipo se centró en la definición y caracterización del sistema de espacios abiertos y en la evaluación ambiental estratégica en aquellos aspectos relacionados con este sistema.
  • Castiñeira Palou, Isabel
    Doctor in Architecture and Urban Design. Professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning of the UPC. She has reconciled her teaching at the ETSAV with classes of Master in Urban Design and with her professional exercise in Castiñeira Corominas Sabaté SCP, CCRS architects, where it has developed numerous works of planning to several scales, territorial and urban.
  • Corominas Ayala, Miquel
    Dr. Architect, Professor of Urbanism at ETSAB. Special doctoral award of UPC for the thesis: "Sòl, tècnica i iniciativa en els origens de l'Eixample de Barcelona". He has participated in several exhibitions about the Eixample and has published several articles, chapters and books about Cerdà and about the Eixample and others about urban planning. He has been invited lecturer in various universities of Europe and America. Architect responsible of Eixample in Barcelona City Council from 1983 to 1987. Combines teaching with professional practice of urbanism in the study CCRS, architects and partners.   • Cuellar, Álvaro
    Architect, Urban Design Master and PhD student in UPC. He has collaborated with diverse offices of architecture, always in topics related to territorial planning, urban design and urban complex projects. He has participated in work for both public and private agents, most recently in Catalonia, the Canary Islands and Andorra. He combines the professional activity with the research and teaching, being nowadays teacher and investigator in the school of architecture of the UIC and from 2007 teacher in the Master of Urban Design (UPC)
  • Español Llorens, Joaquim
    Doctor in Architecture and professor at the School of Architecture of Barcelona (UPC). He has been professor of the "Accademia di Architettura" in Mendrisio, Switzerland, and invited professor in various universities of Europe and America. He is the author of books about architectural research, as "Architects in the landscape", "Invitation to the architecture", "Girona: Anatomy of the historic city", "The fragil order of the architecture" (Doctoral special prize, "Archítesis" prize) and "Form and consistency". He has realized his professional work with F. Hereu. With him he has obtained several prizes (FAD prize of opinion, Special mention award of European Public Space, finalist in several FAD prizes, and others architectural prizes). His works have been published in books and specialized magazines, as well as in the monograph "F. Hereu and J.Español. Inventories of Architecture", and have been showed in various exhibition.
  • Esteban Noguera, Juli
    Arquitecto, Doctor Honoris Causa por la Universidad Politécnica de Cataluña por su larga trayectoria en el ámbito del urbanismo metropolitano que ha contribuido al conocimiento urbanístico en sus dimensiones teórica, metodológica y profesional. Ha desarrollado su trabajo profesional en el campo del urbanismo. Ha participado en la redacción del Plan General Metropolitano de Barcelona y fue el Director de los Servicios de Urbanismo de la Corporación Metropolitana de Barcelona (1977-1987). Asimismo, fue director de Servicios de Ordenación Urbanística de la Mancomunidad de Municipios de la Área Metropolitana de Barcelona (1987-1992).
  • Fayos Molet, Ricard
    Architect (UPC, 1974). Professor at the School of Architecture of Barcelona (UPC) and professor of various Master¿s programs and international seminars. Since 1984 is linked in several important charges in the town hall of Barcelona and since 1992 is the Technical Director of Planning and Infrastructure of the town hall of Barcelona.
  • Font Arellano, Antonio
    Doctor in Architecture, Professor Emeritus at the UPC. National Planning Award 1983. Works along the lines of analysis and project planning, which has developed in european national and regional research projects, being the author of numerous books and articles in this matter and in urban planning. Professional practice of urban and territorial project, such as technical assistance to the Administrations and Public Organisms. Member of several Scientific Committees and International Academics related to the area of study.
  • Franquesa Sanchez, Jordi
    Architect and PhD in Urban Planning by ETSAB. Professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning (UPC) since 1996. Master in Urban Design. He has realized courses on Theory of Architecture at the University of Chicago. He has taught at the University of Venice, in Goiânia (Brazil), Mexico City and in the city of Lisbon. Lately he has focused his career on the study of techniques to improve teaching in architecture, as founder of GILDA (Group for Logistics Innovation and Teaching in Architecture), within the RIMA program (Research and Innovation in Learning Methodologies ) of the UPC.
  • Galindo Gonzalez, Julian
    Doctor in Architecture and Professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning (UPC), where also develops his activity as a researcher. He has taught in several courses and international workshops, such as the Biennial of Spanish Architecture and Urbanism in Santander. He has coordinated, with the Historisch Amsterdam Museum, the exhibition "The construction of the open city. Amsterdam 1934-1995", presented in Spanish and European universities, and was invited by the universities of Palermo and Venice at the seminars that accompanied the exhibition in Italy. His works and articles have been recognized in publications, magazines and on national and international awards.
  • Henrich Monràs, Jordi
    Architect (ETSAB, 1982) and Master in Architecture and Building Design from Columbia University, NY (1985). Architect of the Department of Urban Projects of the Hall of Barcelona (1987-2004) and the Department of Public Space of AMB (2004-2007). He currently works as freelancer, working with J.Artigues, architect, and recently with I. Bennasar, architect, working on projects for public spaces and public facilities.
  • Jornet Forner, Sebastià
    Arquitecto Urbanista (UPC, 1987). Profesor asociado del Departamento de Urbanismo y Ordenación del Territorio de la UPC. Miembro de la ponencia técnica de la Comisión Territorial de Urbanismo de Barcelona, en representación del Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de Cataluña y para la Comisión Territorial de Urbanismo de les Terres de l'Ebre, en representación de la Federación de Municipios de Cataluña. Profesor en diversos cursos de formación en el campo del urbanismo y la gestión en la UPC, Colegio de Abogados de Barcelona y la Escuela Sert del Colegio de Arquitectos de Cataluña. Presidente de la Agrupación de Arquitectos Urbanistas de Cataluña. Premio Europeo de Urbanismo 2010, Premio Nacional de Urbanismo de España 2006 por el Plan de Transformación del Barrio de La Mina en Sant Adrià de Besòs, Premio Urbanismo de la XI Bienal Española de Arquitectura y Urbanismo por el Plan de Ordenación Urbanística Municipal de Montmeló, junto a Carles Llop y Joan Enric Pastor.
  • Magrinyà Torner, Francesc
    Ingeniero de Caminos (UPC 1988). Doctor en Urbanismo (ENPC Paris I Sorbonne; 2002). Profesor de urbanismo en el Departamento de Ingeniería Civil y Ambiental (UPC). Director técnico exposición Mostra Cerdà. Urbs i Territori (1994). Comisario de la exposición Cerdà 150 años de modernidad (2010).
  • Martin Ramos, Angel
    Doctor in Architecture and Urban Design and Professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning of the UPC. He has developed an extensive professional practice in the field of the urban and territorial planning and is the author of several published studies on urban, historical and current issues, as well as of the Spanish edition of relevant works of the modern urbanism.
  • Matilla Ayala, Xavier
    Arquitecto. Profesor de urbanismo en la Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura del Vallés. Redactor, con JLP Arquitectos, del Plan de Ordenación Urbana Municipal de Montmeló.
  • Morán Núñez, Francisca Josefa
    Arquitecta y Máster en Arquitectura del Paisaje, des de 2012 crea la empresa especializada en proyectes de paisaje y habitaje (www.pepamoran.com). Actualmente desenvolupa su tesis doctoral. Des de 2005 trabaja como profesora asistente al Máster en Arquitectura del Paisaje de la UPC. Ha trabajado en el equipo de ríos de la Asociación de Municipios del Area Metropolitana de Barcelona (2007-2012). Ha colaborado con: Manuel Ruisánchez Arquitectes SL, Anna Zahonero (az), Estudis Projectes i Paisatge del medi ambient SL i Estudi Martí Franch. Es una de las socias miembro del equipo de redacción de la revista de paisaje Paisea.
  • Navarro Acebes, Ferran
    Architect. He has worked as Head of Planning in several municipalities (L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, L'Arboç, La Bisbal del Penedes ...) Professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning of the UPC since 1982. Own office since 1976, draft of general and derivative planning (especially historical centers) and of documents for the urban development management. He has written several books and articles about the urban development management, especially on the execution of the urbanism and the transformation of the built city.

  • Peremiquel Lluch, Francesc
    Doctor of Architecture (UPC). Professor of the Department of Urbanism and Regional Planning at the ETSAB (UPC). Professor of several graduate programs. Author and director of researching works in the field of Urban Transformation and Urban Residential Project. Member of the Urban planning Research Group. Municipal Architect of Badalona (1985-2007) where was head of urban planning.
  • Pesoa Marcilla, Melisa
    An architect holding an MSc in Urban Planning from the UPC and a doctoral candidate in urban planning (UPC). A lecturer and researcher at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia in the areas of theory and history of the city and urban morphology. She has participated as a lecturer in the Master's degree on Urban Planning at the UPC and in international workshops. She is responsible for organising the Urban Planning Research Seminar and is a member of the editorial board of the journals QRU (Quaderns de Recerca en Urbanisme) and ID (Identidades).
  • Pié Ninot, Ricard
    Ricard Pié Ninot, Doctor arquitecto por la UPC y catedrático de Urbanismo y Ordenación del Territorio en la ETSAV-UPC. Ocupó el cargo de director de Servicios de Planeamiento y Gestión Urbanística del Ayuntamiento de Barcelona (1989-1992), en el período pre-olímpico. Formó parte del equipo redactor del PGM de Barcelona (1974-1976) y ha realizado diferentes planes a lo largo del territorio catalán y español. Ha sido premiado con el Premio Catalunya d¿Urbanisme 2003 y 2011. Es especialista en cuestiones relacionadas con la ordenación del territorio y el turismo, sobre los cuales ha publicado numerosos libros y artículos. Actualmente dirige diversos grupos de investigación sobre estas temáticas.

    Biologist with a degree from the Universitat de Barcelona and a Master's in Landscape Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Has been linked to the UPC since 1992 as a founding member and principal researcher of the Centre de Recerca i Projectes de Paisatge. Has developed curricular content for the Master¿s program in Landscape Architecture (1993-2003), for the Graduat Superior program in Landscape Architecture (1998-2004), and for the Màster Universitari in Landscape Architecture (2006-2009).
