The Open Talent session on "The Juncker Plan (EU): opportunities and challenges for public-private investment", with Mario Aymerich, Director in Environment and Regional Development at the Projects Directorate of the European Investment Bank (EIB), will take place in the Tech Talent Center (c/Badajoz, 73, Barcelona) at 7:00 pm on Monday 6 July, 2015.
In this lecture, Mario Aymerich will be explaining the Juncker Plan that is being launched by the European Investment Bank, the community financial body of the European Union (EU). This investment plan will mobilize 300,000 million euros in investments in key sectors of the economy over the next three years, such as infrastructure, broadband networks and smart mobility, education, research and innovation, renewable energies and energy efficiency, among others. The lecture will consider the opportunities and challenges for the public sector and private enterprise that will open up with this plan for enhancing investments at European level, which is aimed above all at innovative SMEs and mid-cap companies all over Europe which undertake projects in these strategic areas.
The speaker
Mario Aymerich has a degree in Civil Engineering from the UPC. In the 1980s he worked as head of the Centralized Traffic Control System in the city of Barcelona. In the 1990s he was technical director of a multinational company specializing in intelligent transport systems (ITS). He is currently an adjunct lecturer at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (in the Traffic Engineering field) and at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (the Transport Area). He is also the author of over 50 articles and has co-authored 5 technical books.
Since 1999, he has worked in the European Investment Bank (EIB), where he has been involved in the technical evaluation for funding of some 400 projects in over 50 countries, in both the public and private sectors. In April 2011, he was appointed Director in Environment and Regional Development at the Projects Directorate, covering areas ranging from urban sustainability to natural resources, by way of social integration, the right to water and food security. He is a specialist in risk analysis and initiatives with public-private participation (PPP).
