On Friday, November 7, at 6:00 p.m., the Open Talent: "Epictellers' Recipe: Cook Your Own Studio" will take place at the Auditorium of the Vèrtex Building, UPC North Campus, led by Ricard Pillosu, co-founder and CEO of Epictellers Entertainment. The event will also feature the presentation of the video game The Hound of Ulster, the project developed by the students of the UPC School’s Master's programs in Video Games and Animation during the 2024-2025 edition.
In this talk, Ricard will share the journey of Epictellers Entertainment from its founding in 2023 to becoming a 30-person studio developing Starfinder: Afterlight. He will discuss the lessons learned in building an indie studio in Barcelona, including strategies for establishing a strong team culture, practical advice for entrepreneurs in the industry, and the challenges of positioning in today’s market.

Ricard Pillosu, co-founder and CEO of Epictellers Entertainment
Ricard Pillosu leads this Barcelona-based video game studio, currently developing Starfinder: Afterlight, the first CRPG set in Paizo’s science-fantasy universe. With over 20 years of experience in the video game industry, Ricard has held key roles in AAA productions such as Development Director for Ryse: Son of Rome for Xbox One at Crytek, and as Head of Technology at Smilegate Barcelona. He has combined his professional career with teaching, giving video game technology courses at UPC for 6 years. In 2023, together with Albert Jane, he founded Epictellers with the vision of creating narrative RPGs, gathering a team under the motto “Light, Fire, Destruction.”
Presentation of the video game The Hound of Ulster
At the end of the conference, the video game The Hound of Ulster (by the studio Centuria Games) will be presented — the final project developed by students of the Master's degree in Advanced Programming for AAA Video Games and the Master's degree in Animation & Digital Arts for AAA Video Games from the UPC School during the latest edition of the program (2024-2025 academic year).
The Hound of Ulster is a top-down 3D action RPG inspired by the legendary Irish myth, The Ulster Cycle. Engage in fast-paced hack-and-slash combat against a variety of enemies across mystical landscapes brimming with history, traps, and things waiting to be broken. Attack, dash, heal, and transform as you carve your path through each level and uncover the destiny that awaits you.
