Why this postgraduate course?
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools are an organized integration of hardware, software and geographic data designed to capture, store, analyse and display geographically referenced information. This information is crucial in today's society, because it is a strategic asset that provides knowledge and added value to modern organizations. These technologies contain exceptional capabilities for working with the territory, and provide new ways of understanding and managing our environment.

The course Environmental Applications of GIS combines an approach to information bases, case studies and the application of methods and IT techniques in GIS in practical workshops, aimed at improving the management and organization of territorial information, the environment and natural areas.

It aims to provide continuous training and reorientation of professionals related to the environment, land management and other disciplines related to geography and urban planning, among others, which need to incorporate new Geographic Information Technologies (GIT).

Students will work on constructing descriptors, the new vectors of territorial analysis, environmental characterization index applying methodologies of spatial analysis of the GIS applied to the elaboration of intelligent cartographies, the management of natural resources and the evaluation of environmental impact. Using diverse platforms such as ArcGIS, QGIS and Geomedia. For better monitoring of the program, it is advisable to have basic knowledge of ArcGis and QGIS. In the case of not having this knowledge, the possible access of the interested parties will be studied personalized.

The distinguishing feature of this postgraduate course is the high return on the practical learning that it offers the student. A high level of working autonomy and effective technical training for dealing with high-level GIS competencies in the integration of geospatial data, in creating projects, studies and documents for measuring changes in natural areas and in the environment.

The teaching staff has extensive experience in the implementation of GIS projects in industry and government, as proven evidence by the projects undertaken in the GIS field in the city's Virtual Modelling Laboratory.
Promoted by:
