Why this programme?
Entrepreneurs are made, not born. The Postgraduate in Lean Startup Incubation is a program taught and mentored by renowned entrepreneurs, to help other entrepreneurs to develop or consolidate their business project with the greatest assurance of success. The program arises from the collaboration between the UPC School and Bcombinator -22@ district’s innovation and business development hub-, which helps startups and companies to accelerate and consolidate their business and to expand it at an international level. About 50 startups have already been successfully developed in this incubation and acceleration center.

The postgraduate degree is born to meet the needs of innovation and adaptation of the new business models based on ICT, business ethics and sustainability – everything to create and lead the companies of the 21st century. Combining the teaching, mentoring and practical application, this course is an iterative process to encourage creativity and innovation. The course length is 12 intensive weeks, in which you will learn the concepts of the Lean Startup methodology and from the first day you will begin with the incubation program in Bcombinator, where prestigious mentors will advise you in all areas: product, business model, marketing, finance, legal, strategy, in an environment where innovation, collaboration and networking will be encouraged.

The program is divided into two stages:
1. Training: based on methodologies and tools such as Customer Development by Steve Blank, Lean Startup by Eric Ries, Business Model Canvas by Alex Osterwalder and Creative Problem Solving by Min Basadur. The aim is to create the minimum viable product (MVP) parallelly to the classes and in combination with the Bcombinator incubation program.
2. Incubation: period at Bcombinator where you will be immersed in an ecosystem surrounded by other entrepreneurs, experts and mentors who will advise you throughout the iteration and pivot process until you find the perfect product-market fit.
The postgraduate concludes with the Demo Day, in which you will present your company and your product to an audience comprised of Spanish and international investors.

By the end of the program, you will know how to successfully create and launch companies, you will be an expert on identifying and solving the challenges that come up along the way, you will master how to find a market niche and which are the appropriate marketing strategies to scale a business. You will also be able to properly present in front of an audience and negotiate with customers, suppliers and investors.
You will be a professional trained to launch an innovative company, and thus creating employment and value for society.

Practical Project: Development of the MVP - Incubation in Bcombinator
Postgraduate diplomas issued by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Issued pursuant to art. 34.1 of Organic Law 4/2007 of 12 April, amending Organic Law 6/2001 of 21 December, concerning Universities. To obtain this degree it is necessary to have an official. Otherwise, the Fundació Politècnica de Catalunya will only award them a a certificate of completion.

Learning methodology

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

Learning tools
Participatory lectures
A presentation of the conceptual foundations of the content to be taught, promoting interaction with the students to guide them in their learning of the different contents and the development of the established competences.
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Solving exercises
Solutions are worked on by practising routines, applying formulas and algorithms, and procedures are followed for transforming the available information and interpreting the results.
Case studies
Real or hypothetical situations are presented in which the students, in a completely participatory and practical way, examine the situation, consider the various hypotheses and share their own conclusions.
Success stories
Outstanding business knowledge and experiences with high added value acquired during an outstanding professional career are presented and shared.
Students are given technical support in the preparation of the final project, according to their specialisation and the subject matter of the project.
Students are supported when undertaking group work, including theoretical sessions which provide the tools and knowledge needed to achieve a result. Ideas and results are exchanged between all the participating groups.
Assessment criteria
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Level of participation
The student's active contribution to the various activities offered by the teaching team is assessed.
Solving exercises, questionnaires or exams
Individual tests aimed at assessing the degree of learning and the acquisition of competences.
Work out projects
Studies on a specific topic, by individuals or groups, in which the quality and depth of the work is assessed, among other factors.
Completion and presentation of the final project
Individual or group projects in which the contents taught in the programme are applied. The project can be based on real cases and include the identification of a problem, the design of the solution, its implementation or a business plan. The project will be presented and defended in public.
Work placements & employment service
Students can access job offers in their field of specialisation on the My_Tech_Space virtual campus. Applications made from this site will be treated confidentially. Hundreds of offers of the UPC School of Professional & Executive Development employment service appear annually. The offers range from formal contracts to work placement agreements.
Virtual campus
The students on this postgraduate course will have access to the My_ Tech_Space virtual campus - an effective platform for work and communication between the course's students, lecturers, directors and coordinators. My_Tech_Space provides the documentation for each training session before it starts, and enables students to work as a team, consult lecturers, check notes, etc.

    A graduate from the ESSCA (Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales d'Angers) and the holder of an MBA from the IESE Business School. He led the "Entrepreneurship Center" at the IESE, where he coordinated teaching, research and dissemination activities related to business creation and innovation for more than 6 years. He is currently a lecturer on Initiative, Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the IESE. He advises entrepreneurs and teaches business creation, focusing on financing new innovative initiatives in senior management, executive education and MBA programmes on 4 continents and in 3 languages. He also acts as a private investor in several companies, and heads the Global Entrepreneurship Week in Spain.
  • Counihan, Michael Clark

    Holds an MBA from the IESE Business School, and has completed the CFA programme. He was CEO of Smartkidds, an e-commerce technology start-up. In addition to launching a technology start-up, he has experience in investment banking, research and selection of investments, mergers and takeovers, and business fundraising. The organiser of the Barcelona Lean Startup Circle, one of Spain's largest groups of entrepreneurs and technology. Michael's former start-up was accelerated at SeedRocket Accelerator, one of Spain's leading and most successful accelerators.

    The holder of a degree in Visual Communication. Master's Degree in multimedia interface design. Master's Degree in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). The founder of Micelulacreativa, trainer, creative coach with extensive experience in creativity management and groups dynamics to generate ideas and manage change. A great deal of experience in strategic projects for innovation, with a particular focus on the user and Human Centered Innovation.
  • Valdés, Pau

    Graduate in Molecular Biology and Genetics. Graduate in BAM. Holder of an MEB Master's degree (Master in European Business) from the French business university Edhec. He completed the Executive Development Programme at IESE, and is currently studying the EMP (Entrepreneur Master Program) organised by the EO international organisation of entrepreneurs, which is taught at Endicott House at the MIT (Boston, Massachusetts). He has been an entrepreneur for 15 years. After having carried out several projects in the field of technology and marketing, he is currently the CEO and co-founder of InboundCycle, the first Spanish-language Inbound Marketing agency.

How to start admission
To start the enrolment process for this programme you must complete and send the form that you will find at the bottom of these lines.

Next you will receive a welcome email detailing the three steps necessary to formalize the enrolment procedure:

1. Complete and confirm your personal details.

2. Validate your curriculum vitae and attach any additional required documentation, whenever this is necessary for admission.

3. Pay €110 in concept of the registration fee for the programme. This fee will be discounted from the total enrolment fee and will only be returned when a student isn't admitted on a programme.

Once the fee has been paid and we have all your documentation, we will assess your candidacy and, if you are admitted on the course, we will send you a letter of acceptance. This document will provide you with all the necessary information to formalize the enrolment process for the programme.
