Why this seminar?
In Europe, the mobility sector is a crucial component of economic stability and growth. It has a significant multiplier effect by bringing many sectors and business services together along the value chain, in addition to direct employment at vehicle manufacturers and component suppliers. The ability of professionals to keep up with the rising rate of technology-driven change depends on their ability to adapt quickly. Integrated transportation services and disruptive technologies are enabling a growing number of smart solutions, increasing competitiveness and obviating the need for restrictions. To meet these new challenges, professionals who have been trained in a century-old industry with a traditional way of working will need to continue their education.

In this seminar, we will see how mobility is undergoing one of the most transformational shifts of a generation, fuelled by key technology driven disruptive trends: sustainable vehicles, connected and autonomous vehicles and Mobility as a Service, as well as changes in related industries like assurances, logistics and the supporting infrastructure. Each of these key disruptive trends has its own challenges and opportunities.

Learning methodology

The teaching methodology of the programme facilitates the student's learning and the achievement of the necessary competences.

For subjects 1 to 4, there is a self-study period of two or three weeks after the synchronous learning that includes:
  • 2 or 3 micro-moocs: short video-lessons with some learning material to complete.
  • A short project that will be proposed in class, with the possibility to have academic and Industrial tutoring during this off-line period. If you are taking the seminar 'Innovation and Start-up Ecosystem in Urban Mobility', this project will be related to your start-up project.

Learning tools
Participatory lectures
A presentation of the conceptual foundations of the content to be taught, promoting interaction with the students to guide them in their learning of the different contents and the development of the established competences.
Practical classroom sessions
Knowledge is applied to a real or hypothetical environment, where specific aspects are identified and worked on to facilitate understanding, with the support from teaching staff.
Solving exercises
Solutions are worked on by practising routines, applying formulas and algorithms, and procedures are followed for transforming the available information and interpreting the results.
Case studies
Real or hypothetical situations are presented in which the students, in a completely participatory and practical way, examine the situation, consider the various hypotheses and share their own conclusions.
Problem-based learning (PBL)
An active learning methodology that enables the student to be involved from the beginning, and to acquire knowledge and skills by considering and resolving complex problems and situations.
Flipped classroom
The contents are prepared prior to the face-to-face lessons. Practical sessions take place in the classroom, which enable understanding and application of concepts to real cases and the expansion of knowledge with more technical and specialised details.
Students are given technical support in the preparation of the final project, according to their specialisation and the subject matter of the project.
Advanced asynchronous communication
Systems that enable smooth and clear communication in any situation (video chats, forums, recorded lectures, etc.).
Assessment criteria
At least 80% attendance of teaching hours is required.
Level of participation
The student's active contribution to the various activities offered by the teaching team is assessed.
Work out projects
Studies on a specific topic, by individuals or groups, in which the quality and depth of the work is assessed, among other factors.
Completion and presentation of the final project
Individual or group projects in which the contents taught in the programme are applied. The project can be based on real cases and include the identification of a problem, the design of the solution, its implementation or a business plan. The project will be presented and defended in public.

    PhD in Advanced Production Systems from the Technical University of Valencia (UPV) and industrial engineer from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). She is currently vice-rector and professor at the Department of Business Organization at UPC. She is a member of the TechTalent-Lab and the Supply Chain and Operations Management research group. She has led research and technology transfer projects in the field of operations and supply chain, a field in which she publishes internationally. She is associate editor of the scientific journals Journal of Urban Mobility and Expert Systems with Applications.
  • Sayrol Clols, Elisa

    She holds a degree and a doctoral degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). Currently, she is an associate professor at UPC and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in signals and systems, audiovisual coding, deep learning and biometrics. She collaborates with CARNET and is the academic director at UPC of the KIC on Urban Mobility. She has been associate dean and dean of the Higher Technical School of Telecommunication Engineering of Barcelona (ETSETB) and vice rector for Institutional Relationships at UPC. In the past, she was a visiting scholar at Northeastern University and at the University of Southern California.

    Assistant professor in production logistics at the Department of Sustainable Production Development in KTH Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) Södertälje. He received his PhD in Engineering from Seoul National University in South Korea in 2018. He has experience in production and logistics simulation with companies in South Korea and Sweden. His research interests are digitalization in production logistics and manufacturing simulation.
  • Pérez Rastelli, Joshué Manuel

    He has more than 14 years of experience in the Intelligent Transportation System field where he has successfully designed, developed, and implemented intelligent systems ranging from advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) up to fully automated vehicles. He started working at the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC), in Spain, within the AUTOPIA program for autonomous vehicles, where he got his Ph.D. in 2012. Then, he moved to the National Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et en Automatique (INRIA), in France, where he has technically led more than 10 EU and national projects for demonstrating different ADAS technologies. He has more than 180 publications related to automated driving, ADAS and cooperatives maneuvers.
