UPC School
This lifelong learning course is also part of the training track for the master's degree Bodyworks and Automotive Materials.

The course presents the fundamental concepts and methodologies of finite element calculation which is the base of virtual simulation techniques, widely used in the automotive sector. It also offers a specific vision of virtual reality techniques, essential today in order to reduce development time and costs and to ensure the quality and customer orientation of all designs.

Aims

After completing this course students will be able to:

1. Know the simulation techniques used in the development process of the bodywork structure and its components.

2. Identify the CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) tools applied nowadays in the car industry, the application areas and the most common load cases.

3. Interpret the results obtained with the different CAE disciplines, and to know how they are used in the decision making processes.

4. Understand the geometry optimization process through the use of CAE techniques, by studying practical examples

5. Know the main virtual development processes of bodyworks: DMU, tolerance management and virtual reality, among others.

Who is it for

Graduate students in Automotive, Chemical or Industrial Engineering, Materials Science, Product Design or equivalent.
Working professionals or experienced in the automotive industry.

  • Carod de Arriba, Xavier
    Doctor en Ingeniería de Proyectos por la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Licenciado en Química por la Universitat de Barcelona, especializado en Ciencia de Materiales. Colaborador de la Cátedra SEAT/UPC del 2007 al 2012. Profesor asociado en el Departamento de Ingeniería de Proyectos y Construcción de la UPC.

    Licenciada en Física por la Universitat de Barcelona (UB). Máster en métodos numéricos para cálculo y diseño en ingeniería impartido por el Centro Internacional de Métodos Numéricos en Ingeniería (CIMNE) en la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Actualmente, es responsable del área de protección de peatones y choques a baja velocidad en el departamento de Cálculo Técnico del Centro Técnico de SEAT.

    Desde noviembre de 2011 es la coordinadora del posgrado Electricidad y Electrónica del Automóvil. ELTICA de la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Responsable de la coordinación y gestión del programa de becarios con SEAT, S.A.
  • Comas i Font, Josep
    Responsible for simulations of Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) at the Technical Centre of SEAT.
  • Garcia Navas Rodriguez, Maria Ángeles
    Ingeniera Industrial Superior, especializada en Técnicas Energéticas por la Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). Año de Mecánica dentro del Programa Erasmus en la Universidad Técnica de Darmstadt, Alemania (TUD). Experiencia en Gestión de Proyectos en Inminer Ingeniería SL (Ciudad Real). Experiencia en Desarrollo de Pesos (Optimización de Producto) en SEAT como plantilla de Applus IDIADA. Actualmente, es responsable de desarrollo de Aerodinámica en el ámbito de gestión de proyectos y realización de pruebas experimentales dentro de Física del Vehículo de Centro Técnico de Seat.

    Doctor Ingeniero en Ciencias de Materiales por Technische Universität Hamburg- Harburg. Actualmente, es responsable del grupo CAE Desarrollo Carrocería en SEAT.
  • Nonay Rapp, Esteban
    Head of Experimention of Moving Body Components at the Technical Centre of SEAT
  • Román Marín, Joaquim
    Industrial Engineer by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. Responsible of the inner trimming and passive safety simulation group in the Technical Center of SEAT. He has developed his activity in different aspects within the field of engineering simulation, also including CAE project control.
  • Sánchez González, Rubén
    Ingeniero técnico en diseño de producto por la University of Skövde. Máster en creación digital y Multimedia por La Salle, Universidad Ramón Llull y Posgrado en CARMAT. Carrocería y Materiales de Automoción por la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Actualmente, es responsable del departamento de Visualización dentro Desarrollo Carrocería en Centro Técnico de SEAT.
  • Segura Santillana, Angel
    Angel holds a Degree in Industrial Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. At present, he is the Head of the hood assembly and control boad at the Technical Centre of SEAT. Angel is expert in crash simulation and passive safety, especially in the area of pedestrian protection
  • Zárate Galván, Ángel Victor
    Víctor holds a PhD degree in Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). He is responsible for the occupants¿ front impact simulation of the Calculation Department at the Technical Centre of SEAT. He has worked on the development of safety systems (airbags, seat belts, deformable elements, etc.) for SEAT and other brands of the Volkswagen Group, for the North American and European markets. Víctor has also worked in the development of internal finishes.
