The round table discussion - Open Talent: "New opportunities in the aeronautical sector: employment and growth" will take place in the Tech Talent Center (c/Badajoz 73, Barcelona) on Wednesday 19 November, 2014 at 7 pm.

The aviation sector is a strategic area in the Spanish economy: every year, its turnover increases and it provides thousands of jobs. In fact, the airport sector today generates more than 1% of Spain's GDP, accounting for over 11,700 million euros and 53,000 jobs. It is also a key sector in the generation of cutting edge technology and its transfer to other industries and services.

The round table will include a comprehensive overview of these issues in order to discuss the reasons for the success of the sector, the needs in terms of profiles and skills required by airlines and airport managers, and the general perspectives for employability and competitiveness in the sector.

Those participating in the Open Talent round table will be:

Moderator

  • José Ignacio Escudero. CEO of IT Aerea Aeronautical Business School, the business school responsible for the master's degree in Aeronautical Business and Services Administration and Management (a qualification accredited by the UPC).

Speakers

  • Carlos Medrano. Former Director General of Airports and president of AENA, for two terms until 2004. He has extensive experience in airlines (IBERIA and Cargosur) and is currently chief executive officer of Micael Consulting and teaches in the ITAérea training programmes at the Aeronautical Business School.
  • Álvaro Middelmann. He has been president of the Spanish Airline Association (AECA) and president of the Majorca Tourist Board and former Director General of AirBerlin. He is currently a personal adviser to president of Globalia (Air Europa).
  • Javier Gándara. Managing director of EasyJet Spain and Portugal. EasyJet Airline Company currently operates over 600 routes in Europe, and is the leading operator at airports such as London Gatwick, Geneva and Milan Malpensa.
