A session on entrepreneurship and innovation, with the special participation of Dr Miles Davis, dean of the School of Business at Shenandoah University, and Marc Martinell, CEO of Minory Therapeutics, will take place at the Tech Talent Center (c/Badajoz, 73, Barcelona), on Thursday 8 June 2015 at 6.30 pm.
The session will consist of two masterclasses:
- "ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION: KEYS FOR GROWTH AND SUCCESS". With Dr Miles Davis, Dean of the School of Business at Shenandoah University.
Entrepreneurs must be able to recognise opportunities for improvement and innovation if they want to be called "entrepreneurs". This ability does not stop after they have started the company, as stagnation leads to a company's demise. This lecture will consider specific examples of how innovation has generated growth and success in business, and the decisive factors in this area. Dr Miles Davis is the dean of the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business and the George Edward Durell Chair of Management. He is also founder and director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship at Shenandoah University.
- "THE JOURNEY FROM AN IDEA TO A 25M€ VENTURE CAPITAL INVESTMENT". With Marc Martinell, founder and CEO of Minoryx Therapeutics.
Marc Martinell is the co-founder and CEO of Minoryx Therapeutics, a Barcelona biotechnology company focusing on developing new drugs for a group of rare diseases known as "inborn errors of metabolism". Its most recent success was a capital increase of 25 million Euros and the creation of a board of directors and an independent Scientific Advisory Board that provides Marc and his team with guidance on the company's progression and growth. Before founding Minoryx in 2011, Marc gained extensive experience in drug discovery at Crystax Pharmaceuticals and Oryzon Genomics, where he managed several research projects and led teams in the fields of structural biology, computational chemistry and research and innovation. Marc holds a doctorate in chemistry from the University of Barcelona, and is the co-author of several patents and publications.
